go to wal-mart or any pet store and get a product called "HAIRBALL REMEDY" it is a thick gel type stuff that you just put on her arm (not her paw because she will fling it off) and she will lick it off and it will get rid of the hairball. you should put this on her about once a week to prevent more hairballs.

It is true that cats eat grass, but it is only because they crave chlorophyll. I would try calling the vets office, no charge in calling. If kitty eats grass, and don't get rid of it, then you are looking at surgery. More money. Are you sure it is a hairball or some other reason kitty is coughing, I bet aniother reason, when a hairball is ready to come up, they just blow it right out, they don't cough and cough. If kitty is holding down food, then it is not a hairball. There is hairball remedy cat food. maybe you can make payment arrangements with the vet's office. I would try. Good Luck to you and Kitty.

Give your cat a little bit of petroelum jelly vasaline just a bit.
It will help the hair ball to either pass thru or she will be able to hack it up.
They make a paste stuff that you can get at any pet store it is cheap only a few dollars for a tube and you give a small amount once a week or so and it will remove hairballs.
Other than that if you feed canned wet cat food try mixing a teaspoon of canned pumpkin in with the food two or three times per week. It is high in fiber and can help with hairballs.
Good luck.

If the pet store hairball remedy isn't working and you're using it on a regular basis, try wiping vaseline on her front paw which she will lick off. In the meantime, keep an eye on her litter box to make sure she is still going regularly and as well, keep an eye on her eating/water intake. Hairballs can cause blockages, etc. if they are not passed. If problem persists, guess yo'll have to suck it up and pay a vet bill anyway to keep her healthy.

You can buy medication at petsmart to help cats cough up hair balls. Also you can buy special hairball food. Let your cat eat some grass in your yard. Make sure the yard hasn't been sprayed with any chemicals first.

My cats hack away every now and then. All I do is give them a dose of simple vegetable cooking oil, about a tablespoon. Toss it down the throat and toss the cat out the door, trust me, you don't wanna be there when it comes up! If it doesn't come up, then it will pass down easily.

"Adding a teaspoonful of mineral oil to the cat’s food three days in a row helps compact mats of hair in the stomach and facilitates passage through the intestines. Then give the cat one to two teaspoonfuls of milk of magnesia on the fourth day to speed the recovery process."

Try grass. Take her outside and let her mow the lawn. The grass has an enzyme that helps cats with digestion. It's why they like to chew on grass.

laxatone if you can afford it, its a little expensive. Or mix in a little cooking oil with her food ( a teaspoon or two) that should help also. I had to do that for a rescued kitten and a little goes a long way, if you know what I mean.

Pet stores have hairball remedy. It's pretty goopy and you may have to force-feed it to your cat, but it works.
