You must first understand that life is difficult. There is absolutely nothing you can do about it, even the super-rich have emotional and mental problems that they need to overcome.

Secondly you need to understand that whatever you encounter that makes you feel meek and unable to deal...if you dismiss or ignore the problem it will not go away. Never will it disappear if you ignore it. It will only come back to haunt you--bigger and stronger than before. The best way to make a situation hopeless is to say it is and do nothing to help yourself. It is equal to self medication or taking drugs to forget your problems. It will NEVER make those problems go away.

You need to practice standing up and tackling problems head-on. Only when you experience failure and success will you understand that many of your "problems" aren't as "overwhelming" as you once thought they were. For example, if there is a stack of work to be done at the office, you could be intimidated by it and say, "it's an impossible task, so therefore I shouldn't even try since I am destined to fail." Putting off the work for days only makes the pile grow, and then it becomes even larger and more impossible task in your mind. However, if you had tackled the situation head on from the start, it would have been done and the workload would not be overwhelming as it was when you were a defeatist and did nothing.

If you decide that a problem you are having is too hard to deal with and decide to ignore it, you are defeating no one but yourself, and only making your issues harder to overcome.

If you take on an issue and fail, you cannot use that experience as an excuse to never try again. You cannot prevail over everything in life. It is an impossibility. You must learn from these times of failure and use the experience to work positively for you.
What could you have done differently? Next time something like this happens, how can I use my first poor experience to make the next outcome better?

Stand up for yourself, believe in yourself, and trust that through hard work and dedication there is nothing that can stand in your way. Optimism is the key to becoming mentally/emotionally stronger. It's a hard answer to swallow, until you put it to practice and realize that that the harder you work to keep yourself happy, the happier you will be.

In some ways, only maturity will bring the mental/emotional strength you seek. But you can help it by avoiding artificial pleasures from drugs and vexing people who prey upon your sensibilities. Seek out those individuals who either inspire you or appreciate you for who you are inside, not what you can do for them. Let humor soften the gritty edge of reality and remember there is always two sides of every issue. Listen more, speak less, and take everything with a grain of salt. You'll find the mental and emotional strength you seek sooner than later.

if i were you i'd try to seperate from the things in your life that are kind of controlling...like tv or the internet or smoking if you do...if you stop doing all of this for 2 weeks or so then you'd feel like you've acomplished something and you'd probably have more self esteem

you should also try meditation, it helps you get away from the real world without having to rely on drugs etc. it's the natural way and you feel mentally stronger.

for more info go to

www.meditationsociety.com/

it gives you techniques and such w/o having to go on the internet more than once

I know you can try a lot of things.
But I think only living, and the experiences you go through,
the pain, the betrayals and all that, make you stronger.

Yes, you need to learn to respect and appreciate yourself. Only you can change your attitude. Set goals for how you will handle things and reach them. Good Luck!

this is where the phrase: "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger" is actually true. also read all you can, get answers to your questions. part of strength is regularly using what you want to make strong.

Start believing in yourself. Know your strengths. Don't be conceited, merely self confident.
