If you have fleas in the house call your vet to get the products for both the cat and the house. Once that is done forget it because indoor cats have almost no contact with fleas.

You need to go to your vet and buy some Frontline. It is the best stuff. I have used it for the past 4 years. Do not buy anything that you can get the store. That stuff doesn't help seems like it make them multiply.
Call around to the vets in your area to get prices. I am sure they vary from state to state. I am in KY and I called last week to get some for my cat. A 3 dose pack will cost $35 to $40. It is so worth it. The fleas on my cat are normally gone within the first few hours after putting it on.
You need to put it on at the base of the neck right near the skin. Cats can't lick the back of their necks so your cat shouldn't be able to lick it off.
Secondly you will need to treat your house. Buy some Borax. Found in your laundry aisle at a store where you shop. It is a form of bleach. It is pretty cleap. Sprinkle the Borax all over your carpet sorta like you would if you use carpet deodorizer. Leave the house for hours 4-5 at the least. When you get home vacuum it all up and place your vacuum outside and take the bag out. Borax smothers them but the ones that might still be alive can get out of the vacuum so that why you should remove the bag outside and throw it out. Over the next day or 2 you will notice that you are flea free.
Make sure to treat your cat with the front line each month until it is gone.
I know what you are dealing with as my cat has them right now.

We use the Advantage drops -- you have to put the drops low on the neck, between the shoulder blades where the cat can't lick it. Our cats go in and out, and we never have fleas, so I know this stuff works well.
Also make sure you clean and vacuum any bedding, pillows, furniture, etc. that your cat lays on to make sure you kill all the flea eggs too.
Just curious -- if he's an indoor cat only, how did he get the fleas in the first place?

I have never treated indoor cats for fleas - after all if they are indoors they shouldnt get fleas...
most flea products are somewhat risky to the cat (with flea collars certainly being the worst) the only 100% control of fleas is using flea combs and removeing them by hand

You need to get the product from the vet's office and the next day, give the cat a bath. and steam clean your carpet and clean the house very well. and empty the vaccum cleaner outside! The stuff from the vet's, when placed properly on the cat, cannot be licked offf! Don't use useless flea collars, fleas breed under them and they are poision even to you.

we used advantage squeeze on, (for cats)but you have to part the hair and make sure the stuff goes on the skin not just in hair and you have to put it high up on back of neck where kitty can not reach it to lick it off

You only need to treat your indoor cats if they are in contact with dogs that go in and out or if your yard has them.
Place the treatment between the shoulder blades on their back. They can't reach this area with their toungues.

purely the cat flea and the canines flea (Ctenocephalides felis, Ctenocephalides canis) are significant to canines and cats. in spite of the call, cat fleas infest canines only as much as they infest cats. and you extra desirable spray around the domicile has nicely and wash the animals bedding gasoline nicely
