It is amazing how sometimes these little ones already know what is best for their bodies. It could be that he has a milk allergy and recognizes that it makes him feel bad. Yogurt and cheese are processed and easier to digest for those with mild milk allergies. I have not tried it, but it may make a difference. Soy milk has the same amount of calcium without the lactose that he may be allergic to. Otherwise, there are a lot of other sources of calcium that are actually easier to absorb. At 29 months he should be able to handle spinach, brocolli, oranges, raisins. Some orange juices are fortified with calcium; check the box. The recommendation for a 4 yr old is 800 mg a day. It is probably less than that for your baby and should be easy to reach without cow's milk. Go easy on the juice. The sugar, especially if in a bottle, is bad for his teeth.

He should not be drinking more than 8 oz of juice. Go to this site for helpful info on all sorts of topics, including what to feed your toddler:

You can enter keywords or search by subject. I found this about calcium:

Does your baby really need actual cow's milk? No. The main thing that is in milk that is important for babies is calcium and fat. If your baby will eat yogurt, cheese, or calcium-fortified orange juice (when he is a bit older, of course), then your baby may not actually need milk. Many cereals are also calcium-enriched. The calcium requirement for infants is two or three servings of a calcium-rich food or beverage each day. One cup of milk, juice, or yogurt, or one piece of cheese, each counts as a serving. Breastfeeding at least four times each day also gives your infant plenty of calcium. Calcium-fortified soy milk is a good substitute for regular milk. If your infant doesn't like something the first time, try it again every few weeks. His tastes may change.

Some kids just won't drink milk at all. Yogurt and cheese is also great but I would talk to your pediatrician to make sure that he is getting enough calcium. Chances are that he is but check just to make sure. You don't want him to have bone problems in life, especially when he is little.

My children's pediatrician told me 3 eight ounce sippy cups a day and water or juice the rest of the day. Give water more if it is hot.
