According to statistics, only about 3-4 % of Catholic priests are sick Child molestors. That leaves about 96% who are good Holy men. A few years ago the Vatican began clamping down on who could be admitted into the Seminary. Previous to the Second Vatican Council, there was pretty much no such thing as a priest child molestor. Then after Vatican II, things got too relaxed and presto, we got some nasty nutcases for priests.

The reality of the whole thing is that a few priests have done an enormous amount of damage, however the Catholic church actually has the lowest percentage of child molestors out of all Christian faiths. (about 7.5% for other Christian religions)(and then we won't even get into what Satanists do).

That's pretty much how it is. You can also get away with physically and emotionally abusing children by becoming a nun, I know that from experience. And most likely there is a lot more abuse going on that still has never been reported and will continued to be covered up by the church.

For the people claiming only 3% of priests are molesters, that only represents the number REPORTED. There are a lot more that have not been reported.

The best place right now is school teacher. Just as sociopaths tend to take positions of power, teacher, politician, minister, policeman; child molestors tend to go to positions that put them in contact with children, coach, school teacher, youth minister.

The likelihood of being successfully prosecuted in any of those roles is very small for any act. Children don't tell, they are not credible witnessess, the passage of time tends to interfere and the people are usually credible.

Because of the scrutiny, the Catholic Church is probably currently the safest place for children right now. Certainly safer than the schools.

Your question is intended to cause upset in others. I will look past your immaturity and answer.

Only about 3% of priest world-wide have been involved in pedophilia. We can find similar figures throughout society. The occurrance of this behavior in priests was especially sad for us Catholics because we tend to be very trusting of our priests. We are shocked at our own vulnerability. These are men who are supposed to be celibate, not engaged in sexual activity of any kind, much less activity of a perverse nature.

Pedophiles tend to gravitate to professions where they not only have ready access to children, but also into positions where there is a high degree of trust. They are found in all types of clergy, Catholic, Protestant, Jewish. They are also found in sports coaches, school teachers, Scout leaders, music teachers, youth directors, and on and on and on.

Pedophiles have arrested sexual and emotional development. At some point in their own lives when they were young, often their own molestation, caused their maturing process to stop. The age of their victim of choice often reflects the age at which this trauma occurred in the pedophile. They are literally matching their victim to their own emotional/sexual age.

It appears to be an incurable illness. In prison, they are often model prisoners. They have no children there to victimize. Once released, close to 100% of them re-offend very quickly.

So, this is not a problem of priests, but a problem of all our society. Priests get a lot of press because their stories sell newspapers and get TV watchers. There are others out there.

that's what it seems like. I feel sorry for any honest priests these days. I know if I see one on the street in typical priest garb, that's the first thing I think of..."Who's house is he off to, to molest the little boys?" It's really cliche now.

Yes. They could also become a counselor, a child care worker, a nurse, a doctor or any other profession. If you get away witha crime, it cannot be held against you. You must be convicted of the crime in order for it to be held against you

Don't judge every one for a religion..
I Have no religion here, I have Christ. Don't believe in priest, my only Priest is Jesus Christ, he is the only Priest, every one that has called them self a priest, is an anti-christ.

That's like saying someone who wants to murder people and get away with it can just become a doctor.
