Someone in the streeet tried to get me to join their church, i dont believe in god, so we had a little debate, he said that everyone is on a journey, and with each life, they learn something new, and this way they can get closer to god. I was wondering then what is the purpose of babies dying minutes after they are born, what lesson exactly do they learn?

Maybe the lesson wasn't for them at all. The lesson could have been one for the parents or doctor or others who came in contact with them for that short period of time.

I'm Mormon and we believe that everyone one earth chose to come here, in part ( a big part) to get a body. Greatly simplified, you have to have a body to even think about advancing to the next level. So, we believe that some spirits are so valiant that they only need a body in this life. They don't need the experiences we do, or to be taught the lessons we do, because they've already learned them before coming here to be born. (On the flip side of this, is that the parents will be able to raise their children who died before the age of accountability [age 8] on the other side, before the day of judgment.)

Hun you cannot control nature. Some women are not meant to have babies. Some babies might have a true illness and only God knows that maybe that child will suffer if it should live. Maybe the parents wouldnt be able to handle the child and its illness. God could be saving that child from such pain and misery in its lifetime.

Hey man some people are so smart that they have already learned it all while still in the womb man. So God can kill them right when they are born. If God let them live they might cure cancer or AIDS or prevent earthquakes from killing lots of people and God can't allow that because then how would he kill people man?

Maybe it isn't the babies who have learned a lesson, maybe the lesson is meant for those left behind or the doctor who failed, or who knows? Life is one big mystery and to pretend to know all the answers is ridiculous.

You only have one life to try and get closer with God. Maybe God loves them so much that he doesn't want them to have to be subjected to this vile mass of destruction that we call the world. The way I look at it he is calling them home. They get to fast forward to heaven without having to worry about asking for forgiveness for their sins because they don't have the chance to commit any.

Good question and I see you got a few of the normal Christian party line answers, but none of them really make any sense, do they?

If you look at it from the standpoint that there is no god and sh*t just happens it makes more sense, at least to me.

That Jesus loves them.

The lesson that needs to be learned here is not for the baby. It is for their parents.

I don't think Christianity believes in reincarnation (cycle of rebirth). Maybe it was a Buddhist that spoke to you? Or Hindu?

I see this a lot. You are blaming God for something that He didn't do. You're not a believer, so it's understandable that you get things confused.

Oh well!
