It doesn't cost anything.
It does cost to be a member of a church.
It costs nothing to worship in Spirit and in Truth.
When people look down at you, they are ignorant.
They must believe in titheing. As taught to them by their prospective ministers in their prospective churches.
If they knew the Truth, they would be free.
A lesson:
Heb 7:5 And verily they that are of the sons of Levi, who receive the office of the priesthood, have a commandment to take tithes of the people according to the law, that is, of their brethren,
You see here that it is a commandment in the law.
What law? The levitical law. We of the New Testament are not under the levitical law. Furthermore, the pastor is not a levitical priest, and not being one, he has no right to collect tithes.
Heb 7:12 For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law.
So here we see that we have a new high priest, Jesus.
Having the new high priest we have also a change in the law.
No more levitical law. ( New Testament )
Heb 7:18 For there is verily a disannulling of the commandment going before for the weakness and unprofitableness thereof.
Heb 7:19 For the law made nothing perfect,
Here we see that there is a disannulling of the former. What is that? The levitical law. The law made nothing perfect, so there had to be a new Testament. This done 2000 years ago on the cross by Jesus Christ. The new testament inaugurated in His Blood. The Blood of the New Testament. Why is the old still going on? Because people don't have the Truth. They listen to pastors that say give me the money. OLAY!
Grace my boy. Grace.
Truth my boy.
Why is it said, and you shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free. Free from what? Lies.

Being a Christian doesn't cost money...it costs your entire life!!!!
Devote your entire life to serving Jesus, and you will be a true Christian.
ONly false Christians will look down upon you for not donating enough. However, the recommended amount of money that should be given to God is a tenth of your income.

I am not christian but many churches have a practice called tithing, and that is 10 percent of your income. However, that money is to go to the upkeep of the church and not ment to "save your soul" In the true sense of good will, in order to be a good christian acording to the bible is to repent and ask for forgiveness of your sins and then live your life as close as you can in accordance to the life of Christ. The 10 commandments are supposed to be some kindof guide. That is a general answer but there are many many differing opinions in chirstianity so there are different "requirements" to being saved. My suggestion is to research the particular branch you are into...sheesh, now I remember why I am not christian...
Good Luck

I don't know about other Christians, but the Catholic Church has never demanded money from anyone. Tithing a certain percentage is a suggestion. We have a free will. Why be worried about what others think? The Church Police aren't going to come after you if you want to be stingy with God. That's between you and God.

The Bible requires believers to tithe 10 percent of your income, a law upheld by Jesus as He watched people enter the temple and give. Christians are also supposed to give offerings, which is money above one's tithe.
In a church, your tithe goes to support the Church. Someone has to pay the power bill for the AC and lights, the ministry staff (they have to make a living too ya know) and outreach such as the benevolence fund in which the church buys groceries, gasoline, pays power bills for people who don't have money

It costs your life. Money is irrelevant. One of the complaints against Mother Theresa, when she was alive by her opponents, was that about 600,000 people in India would have been dead without her and by allowing them to survive were a drain on the Indian economy.
To be a good Christian, you must dedicate your life to God the Father. To give a good example, St. Francis of Assissi gave everything away to the poor. He spent the rest of his life in a burlap robe working and sharing with the poor.
If you wish to be a good Christian, give everything to the nearest poor and walk away from your life and serve the least of your brothers.
Otherwise, you will have to be like the other Christians. Fortunately God has low expectations.

Looking to buy your religion--see the Moonies
You've given yourself an easy out here to not be religious
Come to an assumption that it's about the money have we ?
That makes it a lot easier to turn your back on --huh ?
Well try this one on---being without faith (you don't need a man made religion for that) will cost you your life anyway and once you find faith (not the man-made kind) it too will cost you your life----the only difference in the cost however is in the pay off-----

Nothing, I think it's horrible for a church to demand donations, God would be more appreciative if you donated money to good causes, like the homeless or something. Not to a church where they spend our money to buy pretty golden things to decorate the church with.

Why would you contribute to a Religion that is Heritical and Balstphemous? BE A GOOD HUMAN BEING and give to the Secular causes as you see fit. Try the Red Cross, United Way, or Cancer Society, etc. DO NOT CONTRIBUTE TO A RELIGION that has historically taken more than it has retuned to society. Check out WWW.UUA.ORG! PEACE!
