generally if you have no family history they send you for a baseline mammogram (initial) between the ages of 35-40 and then you get one every other year after that. since it's in your family, i would guess the doc might send you for a baseline now, so that they can check to make sure you're clear and have something for comparison in the future. i would also guess you'd be getting one yearly with such strong family incidence.

I had breast cancer at 29 years old (I am 31 now). I was told that my girls should have a mammogram 10 years before the age I was diagnosed. So for example, when they are 19, they should start having mammos. How old are the family members with cancer? Good luck to you and your family!

I have breast cancer. My daughter asked my Dr. when she should get her first mammogram. The Dr. said at 35 for a baseline and if that is normal that again until she is 40.

My gynecologist told me they start doing the mammograms at age 40. But if there is a history of breast cancer or abnormalities in your family she will definately want to do them sooner. Good luck.

Call a doctor and set up an appointment and say that you want a precautious test for your first mammogram, they wont turn that down. If you dont have insurance go to a free clinic and see what they can do for you.

I was diagnozed at 36 so the doctor said my daughter should be tested at 26 (deducting 10 years from my occurance) so if your parents had it find out their age when they found it, I hope this helps

Since my mom had a "breast scare" (not cancer), my Dr. suggested that I have mine at 20 years old, due to her scare and my own medical history.
