The answer lies, oddly, in the teachings of most other religions ... the concept of doing unto others as you would have them do unto you. But most people don't practice what they preach.
There are a lot of great lessons from religions, but most people just talk about learning from them ... rather than actually taking the time to look beyond the text and apply the teachings to their lives.
For instance, what if Christianity's teachings of "Heaven" aren't actually about eternal life in a literal sense ... what if the true meaning behind the words is pointing towards eternal life in that the actions of your lifetime cause a rippling effect on the future ... everyone we touch is affected in some way by our interactions ... how we treat each other and how we treat the world around us decide whether others will follow in our footsteps, we will be forgotten, or if others will turn down a destructive path because of our interactions.
Thus, in a way we can achieve "Heaven" ... bringing peace and prosperity upon the world ... through living a good life. If we instead choose a selfish path, we inflict pain on others (who will often do the same in turn) and help to bring about the destruction of our species.
I could write a book about how incredibly similar the teachings of nearly every religion are ... and how their "differences" are almost assuredly due to the varying practice (or lack thereof) of those beliefs.
I wish more would follow the example of the Buddhists ... they are good people.

i'm amazed at the people somehow equating the good reputation of buddhism to satanism. it's times like this when christians earn the hateful reputation they have built over the years. Buddhism for the most part has been more philosophy than religion over the years so not really comprable to dogma filled religions like islam and christianity. The idea that the positive thibngs that are taught in buddhism is somehow satanic sounds more satanic than anything that I have ever heard from the mouth of a buddhist.

Christians: their symbol is a dead man hanging from a cross.
Buddhists: their symbol is a jolly rolly-polly guy.
Take a serious look at the Christian religion.
Now take a look at the Buddhists.
Buddha NEVER claimed to be God, or the son of God, but that we ALL are, and can be. Of COURSE Christians are going to have a problem with this! A religion that is all-loving and accepting, with a God that loves and accepts everyone? No one can be socially superior!
And which would you rather be--a dead guy on a cross or a live guy just enjoying whatever came his way?
I think Jesus came to earth, got vilified and crusified, decided that blew, and converted. Buddhism is what he had in mind!

You answered your own question, but I agree with you for the most part.
Still, Perfect compassion is only as perfect as the one attempting to practice it.
If you can actually do it then happyness will be the result.
Most people are too caught up in judgment and striving for material things to even understand what true compassion is.

Because they don't go around forcing their beliefs on anyone. Every action has an equal and opposite reaction, that's why other religions are getting so much backlash in today's world. It had to happen sometime.
Buddhism like Hinduism allows you to experience spirituality for yourself and follow your own path for perfection in the name of the Lord. They never dictate to you that you have to do this or do that.

Because it's so much more fun, and so much more trendy, to bash Christianity.
Here's something "bad" about Buddhism -- from what I've seen of it when I lived in Japan, and from what I've read about it, it engages in precious little charitable work.
Plus, one of the richest students I taught English to over there was a Buddhist priest -- the guy made tons of money just going around to people's houses and praying for families' ancestors.
And they say the Catholic Church is loaded with money ...???

Buddhism, Taoism and Jainism are atheistic faiths which never fought in any HOLY war.
Their leaders/ founders do not impose belief as salvation. Ahimsa ( Non-Violence) is the basic belief.
All of them accept Good begets Good which is simply known as Karma (Kamma)
They do not convert nor shown favour to those who are of the same faith or discriminate those who are not.
Buddhism is the only religion in the world that been praised by the wise and many intellectuals.

Buddhism has many good qualities and a few bad practitioners.
However Julia is b*llshi**ing again because The Vatican really is rolling in cash! it revealed on Wednesday that it made a surplus of €9.7 million in 2005.
The US remain the No.1 donor to the “Holy See”
"providing a third of the money the pope needs to hinder efforts to curb the spread of AIDS, to defame homosexuals, interfere with women’s rights to self-determination, to discourage contraception, increase sexual guilt and try to force these doctrines on everyone through the blackmail of politicians and medical staff. Buddhism is indeed a very uncontroversial religion. So would be Christianity, if we focused on the teaching and the philosophy of Jesus Christ. They are quite similar, actually. But unfortunately, Christianity, like Islam and Judaism, were all used in order to manipulate the masses, to put social rules and crimes were committed in their names. However, I don't think anyone could say anything against Christ Himself or about what he said and did.
