I have been raising my nephew for 4 years and I do not have legal gaurdianship of him but I do have a power of attorney letter notarized. His mother abandoned him is he considered a ward of the state and can the state of TX financially help me out with him. Who should I turn to for questions and answers. Does anyone know a number that I can call for help with this situation?

Call the department of children and families. Also, call social security office, and it is useful to call your local courthouse and ask if they have some free legal advice on childrens matters. Some states do, not sure if Texas.
Good luck.

I'm not familiar with Texas law. My first inclination is that you should talk to what ever department their family social services is called there. You should also consider seeking the advise of a lawyer. I'm guessing that you will probably need the lawyer in order to get actual custody of the child which is going to be needed in order for you to obtain financial help. Your first step should be to call your local court house or a lawyer.

I've only heard of that term/title for signing of contracts. Texas used to have the Texas Rehabilitation Commission ... like everthing else the name might have changed. Best bet is gonna be yellow pages, government, texas state.

good luck and I'll comment I've know someone that adopted kids in his neighborhood to gain influence over the welfare of the child.
