Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain.
Also the spirit of the law. It's considered "foul" language for a reason, because people have taken the letter of the law to the next level - the spirit of the law.
Anything that profanes God, or what He created can be considered profanity. It's about intent, historical intent as well as the persons intent who is saying it. We all know that certain "s" word that means poop is a cuss word, yet "poop" is not a cuss word. It's because of historical intent. At some point that word went from being another word for excrement to comparing someone or some other thing as excrement. Since God created man and everything in the world, the person who uses this certain "s" word is saying that God's creation has the same worth and value as excrement. Not only is it not true, the picture created in ones mind is vulgar and profanes the mind.

During one of the tribal festivals in India, the tribals sing songs using foul words. They believe it will keep them away from evils forces.
Yet another case I know is from a report by a BBC reporter from China. She says in China, they use foul words to address their new born babies; in order to guard the young ones from evil creatures. They believe that the use of these foul words would give the evil creatures an impression that, inside the house, there dont have new born babies, instead some thing foul.

In Matthew 5:22, Jesus says that if you call someone a fool you could go to hell. This is funny because in Matthew 23:17 Jesus uses the word himself, so maybe that's why he is said to have descended into hell, 'according to the scriptures'.
Matthew 5:22
22But I tell you that anyone who is angry with his brother will be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to his brother, 'Raca,' is answerable to the Sanhedrin. But anyone who says, 'You fool!' will be in danger of the fire of hell.
Matthew 23: 16,17
16"Woe to you, blind guides! You say, 'If anyone swears by the temple, it means nothing; but if anyone swears by the gold of the temple, he is bound by his oath.' 17You blind fools! Which is greater: the gold, or the temple that makes the gold sacred?

Ten commandments: thou shalt not bear false witness....
As a spin off from the idea that our words can hurt people and destroy character. Also using God's name in vain. For Christians this would be saying the same of Jesus in anger or inappropriately.
