I would probably say, (being the smartass that I am) "Yes, and when I'm with you, the doorknob is more interesting..."

That sounds like your friend is saying you can't keep a secret. Have you been untrustworthy with confidences before...? If you have offended your friend in this way, it would be best to apologize, and not reveal things that have been told you in the future, without permission. I hope you have not lost a friend over this. Good luck!

I would probably ask this question of the next doorknob I walk past.

Put a doorknob in your handbag and retrieve it anytime you want to bring up this comment to your friend. Then politely tell her where she can place the doorknob. (Make sure to tell her to apply ample lubrication) ;)

a true friend will never say anything like that... she is not your friend then.... better befriend a doorknob or the witch that collects doorknobs (Bewitched)

I will speak to whom or what I please. (When you speak, if you are respecting the dignity of others; then your friend to my thinking must have prejudices towards the appearances of others. That is shallow.) Question your friend and not yourself, if you are behaving in a seemly manner.

it's that you are overly nice to everyone. just a guess. it's good to have nice people in the world, too many people like me would be bad.

There is a very cliched saying, but very apt here.
"With friends like this, who needs enemies?"
