I'm a christian and I believe in the Son of God. When people speak of Allah are they talking about the same God I learned about in sunday school?
If not, where did Allah come from?

I am who I am. Anyone who says they are me (or who says that someone else is me) when that person(supposedly-me) either says or does things that I expressly do not agree with, or even abhor ... It is obvious to those who know me well that the imposter truly is someone else! But of those who don't know me well, many may be easily duped into believing that we are the same person, especially if that person has donned my title, & occasionally says things that I have previously said. (The Quran occasionally quotes from the Bible.) Following are a few on-line quotes & links to definitions & histories of the names "Allah", & "Jehovah":

Allah ~ Encyclopaedia of the Orient
http://i-cias.com/e.o/allah.htm
"...The term "Allah" comes from the Arabic "al-Lah", that can be translated with "the god". In pre-Islamic times, in the polytheistic religion of Mecca, there was a god that was called by this name. Al-Lah was probably considered as the highest god, but not an acting power, and therefore rarely focused on in rituals. While Islam rejects the other deities, al-Lah is described as the one eternal, omnipotent god. "Allah" is therefore not a proper name, and also Arabic Christians use "Allah" in their Arabic Bible. ..."

How Did the Name Become a Mystery?
Some think that “Jehovah” in Hebrew means “Allah” (God). But “Allah” corresponds, in Hebrew, to ´Elo·him´, the plural of majesty of the word ´eloh´ah (god). A superstition arose among the Jews that prohibited
them from pronouncing the divine name, Jehovah. So it became their custom that while reading the Holy Scriptures, whenever they came to the name “Jehovah,” they pronounced ´Adho·nai´, which means “Lord.” In some places they even altered the original Hebrew text from “Jehovah” to ´Adho·nai´. Christendom followed the same course. They replaced the name Jehovah
with “God” (“Allah” in Arabic) and with “Lord. ...”

Linguistically, "Allah" is the Arabic term for "God" or "god." Theologically, however, there is a significant amount of difference between Mohammed's version of Allah and the biblical version of God.

Both are said to be omnipotent (all-powerful) and sovereign (have the right to rule over everything), and both are said to have created the universe.

Mohammed's Allah is less knowable that the biblical God. Allah is said only reveals himself through one prophet and his descendants (Sunnis and Shiites disagree over this line). The biblical God reveals much more of Himself through the Bible, nature, His Son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit who lives in Christians individually and collectively.

So, although there are certain similarities between Allah and God, there are significant differences too. Don't believe those who claim there are no differences between them, or worse yet, that there are no differences in any religions at all.

Allah, Jehovah, God, Yahweh...
they're all the same dude. heheh.

Those names are all of religions which came from the tribe of Abraham. All speak of the God of Abraham, who is... yes... your Christian God. When someone speaks of Allah, they are *not* speaking of God the Son (Jesus). They are speaking of God the Father, as they believe Jesus was a prophet.

However, all of the Abrahamic religions (Christianity, Judaism, and Islam) believe in the same Father and Spirit God. Some would say otherwise; but theologically and historically, this is the case.

Muslims pretend that their god is the same as the Judeo-Christian God Almighty of the Holy Scriptures.

Actually, "Allah" is another manifestation of Satan, who is behind all false religion.

(2 Corinthians 4:4) the god of this system of things has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, that the illumination of the glorious good news about the Christ, who is the image of God, might not shine through

Allah and Jehovah are both names for the one and only God. People of different faiths just call him by another name. There is only one God.

Perhaps the word "Allah" sounds strange to your ears. Maybe you are wondering what it means or maybe you heard something about it but you are not sure. "Allah" is the name of the Creator who created everything and whom every believer worshipped from the beginning of the universe.

He is the same God whom the Jews, Christians and Muslims worship and until now Arab Jews and Christians use this name. He has many other names and attributes by which He describes Himself to His creatures. It is as He has said in the Quran: "...To Him belong the Most Beautiful Names..." (59:24)
The Creator , Sustainer, Ever-living, Self-Subsisting

The Muslims believe that Allah alone is the Creator and Sustainer of everything that exists. We believe that He does not die, nor requires food or rest. We believe that He is absolutely without need of support or assistance; rather, the entire creation depends solely upon Him. These beliefs are derived directly from the Quran (the Book revealed by Allah to Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him)) and the Sunnah (the sayings and teachings of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) himself).

Allah has said in the Quran :

255. Allah! None has the right to be worshipped but He, the Ever Living, the One Who sustains and protects all that exists. Neither slumber, nor sleep overtake Him. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on earth. Who is he that can intercede with Him except with His Permission? He knows what happens to them (His creatures) in this world, and what will happen to them in the Hereafter. And they will never compass anything of His Knowledge except that which He wills. His Kursi extends the heavens and the earth, and He feels no fatigue in guarding and preserving them. And He is the Most High, the Most Great.
(2:255)

11. Allah did create you from dust, then from a little fluid, then He made you pairs (male and female). No female conceives, or lays down (her load), but with His knowledge. And not one grows old who grows old, nor is his life lessened, but it is recorded in a Book, Behold! That is easy for Allah.
(35:11)

No. Allah is the same old jealous, petty, capricious, mass-murdering psychopathic Abrahamic diety of desert monotheism that is described in the Old Testament... Yahweh... Jehovah... whatever.

Christians seem to think that around 2,000 years ago, this diety developed some kind of Multiple Personality Disorder (MPD), in which he manifested a hippie-like personality (Jesus... spent some time on earth... can now be eaten in the form of a cracker), and some Casper the Ghost-like character with pedophilic tendencies (suspected of having impregnated a 12 or 13 year-old virgin... and being honored for it).

The Moslems, however, do not share that belief; they see him as his same-old psychopathic self, essentially unchanged since his old-testament days... except that he seems to have updated his reward system about 1,500 years ago, when he started handing over virgins (in heaven) to be defiled by insane zealots, as a show of gratitude for them having carried out mass-murder and killing themselves in his name.

Sweet.

I find him very interesting to note that most Christians... including Christian preachers... haven't got the slightest clue about the historical roots of their own religion, let alone any other religion.
