It isn't that bad. I don't have insurance either and I had mine pulled. I would recommend going to an oral surgeon rather than the dental school. It may cost a little more, but the follow up and peace of mind may be worth it. I only had local anesthesia (I was awake) for mine. While my first choice, was a LOT cheaper. Just bring something to listen to (like an iPod) while they do it and it isn't so bad. Plus if you only have local you are not as likely to get sick after. Just follow the dr.'s directions and whatever you do, do not drink through straws for at least a week (pulls the blood clot out). Good luck!

Had my wisdom teeth removed on Saturday and the procedure itself didn't hurt. I was given local pain numbing medication and the experience was so much better than I wouldve ever imagined. I was able to play games while the procedure was being performed, the chair had massaging motions on my back, all x-rays were digital and they had a painless needles for the medication to be administered. And all of this is coming from someone that was previously terrified of the dentist until this experience. The only thing is make sure that you eat before you take any pain medication. I took mine the first day and didn't eat and this made my stomach hurt really bad. Also, make sure that you use ice for the first 24 hours because this also helps with the achy feeling. Three days post op I feel good but I still have tenderness, swelling, sore gums and etc. but that's what I expected. However, I'm not taking any pain medication except Tylenol because I don't like the side effects of Lortab 10 makes you feel like a freakin zombie. Good luck!

I have had all 4 removed and so has my husband. I had 2 that had come through but after X rays the doctor found the other 2 and said he could cut those out.
I was put to sleep and did not feel a thing. My mouth was sore but what made me feel so bad was taking my meds without food...DO NOT DO THAT! Take your pain meds before the pain starts. Also that nasty gauze they put in the holes the first day. Once you change that you will feel better.
Do not drink with a straw afterwards. This can give you dry sockets and I hear they are awful.
Best of luck to you. As long as you do what the dentist says you should have no trouble.
If I can do it, I know you can....

Damn! I'd call a lawyer. That guy doesn't need to be practicing dentistry. It should hurt. That's the nature of getting teeth pulled. Especially big ones. But with a good dentist and decent pain meds, it should be bearable pain. That dentist sounds like a horror movie!!

First of all, take heart...its not more than you can bear. There will be some residual soreness, for which you will be given prescribed pain relievers/deinflammatories, and there will be some inability to eat normally, for which they invented blenders. The soreness and swelling lasts about three days. You'll have to rest up for a few days, so relax, get 'r done, and be thankful its not during the Thanksgiving holidays. Enjoy the ice cream.

I had two(the bottom back two) pulled at the same time because there was no room for them. I believe experts call this impacted tooth?! The needle hurt more than the extractions did!!

I had all four of my wisdom teeth done and one time. I really had no problem with the surgery, but I had some stitches afterward that took a little while to heal. All in all, it really wasn't too bad. My worst reaction was to some pain medication they gave me afterward. That made me sick. Good luck....it'll be over soon.

had all of mine taken out at the same time - 2 were impacted. i used novocaine and the gas. didnt feel any pain, just the pressure from the dentists' hand but that didnt hurt. take your pain medication as prescribed and you won't feel any pain at all. make sure to take all of your medication as perscribed - that helps alot. the stitches should desolve by themselves if you get them. you'll be back to yourself in no time.
good luck!!

It really didn't hurt me at all, once you're numb you just feel alot of pressure, but that's about it. I think the worst was afterward, it'll hurt for a while, but you'll get through it. Just make sure you have some Aleve or something for afterward.

I was awake when they took mine out. My dentist took two out, and then two weeks later he took the other two out. It is not so bad. The first two days is hard to eat, but they usually give you some type of pain killer so you don't feel it.
