this is one of the biggest controversies in the Bible, it is sexism dated back to before Christ was born.
it is very seldom the history of any woman is given, in fact most women are nameless in the Bible.
Noah's wife is only referred to as Noah's wife.
Shep's wife is only referred to as Shep's wife and so on.
In Genisis, when detailing the lineage of ALL the men, it does not mention any of the women, hmmmmm.
It is this man begat this man, whom begat these men, whom begat this man and so on.
To be honest, any story you make up about Mary will do just as well as any other story created, as for the truth we will never know.

The majority of lineages in the bible were given through the history of the men. Look at all the begatings in the old testament, Abraham began Isaac and Isaac begat Jacob etc. The women were only mentioned when there is a story or event in the bible related to them, take for example Rahab. It was because of Rahab that the spies were able to spy out Jericho so she was mentioned. It is not important to the story or else it would be given. What is truly great is that it happened and we have been given salvation. Accept it today!

Jesus was raised by Joseph in Joseph's house;QED, under the mores of the day he was Joseph's son because Joseph had to be responsible for the consequences of anything that Jesus did.

I think that back then, people married into their own line - so if joseph was of the house of david as was mary. that is strange, however, that this is never specifically stated in the bible

There are two genealogies given for Jesus, one through Joseph (that is what people back then were looking for) and another through Mary (that makes some people think that Jesus' genealogy is a contradiction).

Joseph was Jesus' father in every way besides biologically. He provided the basics and love and protection as well.
As for Mary, she was of the House of David. I have provided a link below and you can just scroll to "Mary's Davidic ancestry".

Mary and Joseph were brother and sister. I think they were originally from New Jersey but moved because it stank too much. I don't know if they were related to David Letterman or not.

Because of the culture of the time. Women were not held in high regard. The lineage would automatically follow that of the male.
