The younger brother of my colleage has psychological problems and refuses to seek professional help. This past weekend he met his sister at his parents. For no reason he walked to her, grabbing her by the hair and punched right into her eye. Before this he pushed his father and his father's wrist was broken. As family members, they probably won't sue him for such violence, but something MUST be done before another person gets hurt. He's like a walking bomb, and no one knows when he'll explode and hurt people. He used to hold a job but quit due to his problems. Can anyone here offer any suggestion? Your help is greatly appreciated.

According to the reading I have done regarding hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), the brain, when it senses that blood sugar is low, will do sometimes strange things to get the blood sugar (glucose) out of storage and into the blood stream. Adrenaline is one sure way to do this. If his behavior causes him to get an adrenaline rush, and anger does (fight or flight) then low blood sugar is possibly the cause.
Eating a diet that stresses protein (poultry and fish are best, unless he is a vegetarian and then soy is very good), low glycemic carbohydrates (look up a glycemic index) and good fat (olive oil for cooking, almonds or peanuts for snacking), may help him without his being aware of it. His parents should start a slow change in the family's nutrition (they all would benefit - because he got his genes from someone).

When someone becomes a danger to himself or others, he can be committed involuntarily for psychological evaluation. It appears that this man has reached this point. If the family wants him to get help, they need to take steps now. The next time this guy lashes out, it may not be with a family member who will cover for him, and he may end up in jail. If he injures or kills someone, it will be on their conscience if they fail to do something now. Please encourage them to get this man committed. They owe it to the rest of us to take him off the street. If he gets into a psychiatric facility, he will get some help. If he ends up in jail, he may be totally lost to them.

Call the police - get his record started. Then he'll be able to get into the mental health system. I don't know if you can just tell them to get committed - you risk the chance that he'll duck and run. He will only get more violent as his inhibitions relax more and more.
Again, do us all a favor and call the police.

I would report him to your local mental health institution for observation. I am sure the parent would agree with this. This young man need some help sooner not later.

The family SHOULD report to the police when he attacks one of you. It's for your and HIS own good! He needs psychological/medical help, if he wants it or not.

Take him to the hospital and tell them he is suicidal and that he is trying to kill himself.. They will seek out what is really going on.. He may be suffering from panic disorder, or bi- polar. Good Luck!

Everyone should gang up on him and intimidate him. Maybe he will realize how it feels to experience traumatic actions.
