The poster who mentioned PCBs is right. If they are old and are leaking, then you might have a problem. BTW, you could have a major in dog grooming and still know about PCBs... they were widely publicized a few decades ago.

If it is in a contained environment and the hazardous parts removed there should be any problems. If you are not comfortable withe the transformer being store there talk to the village and ask them what precautions they took and it hey plan ON leaving it there. Then take it from there.

Older transformers had PCBs, which are very toxic if they get in the environment.

obviously the other people answering don't know about PCBs and transformers. i know because i majored in electrical engineering in the 1970's & 1980s when this was a big problem

A used transformer is usually junk metal!

Oh! transformer oil? Could it be dangerous? Perhaps, but who's gonnadrink it? And the company musthave drained it before storage. So I doubt itis hazardous.

Transformers which have been deactivated can cause no harm, because it is emitting no radiation.
