There is a mushroom growth of Ayurvedic Institutes in USA-through the lenghth and breath of the country. They teach a short course of 3 to 4 months duration-not like B.A.M.S. in India which is of 4.1/2 of year course, with 1 year internship after 12 th standard .Even in India students do not read the original texts of Charaka, Sushrutha, Vagbhata, Bela, Sarangadhara, Ashtaanga Samgraha,or the commentaries of the texts-they read some cheap books in vernacular and get away with a degree. In one interview I was the Chairman of a Selection Commitee for Research Assistants post-I asked if at least one candidate out of 14 or 15 aspirants recite one verse from Brguthryaee or Laguthrayee ,I will select him/ her.Not even one candidate could answer. The students in USA-what Ayurveda they would study in 3-4 months-even their teachers might not have read these original texts-but still they get a certification and practice!!-that is the Status of Ayurveda -Learning and Teaching in USA.One lady has written a book on "Ayurvedic Cooking"!!!!!-She has written about some Punjabi Vegetarian Reacepies-which has nothing to do with Ayur Veda.Ayur veda is not a synonym for vegetarianism--Dr.Rajagopalan-Senior Scientist (Retd)-Central council for research in Ayurveda and Siddha(CCRAS)-Govenment of India.

Yoga and meditation are very popular in the USA.

There are several Ashrams as well as retreats which assist people improve their meditation.

As regards Ayurveda medicine it is not much popular as a sick person would like to take medicine which is scientifically proven. But I am personally aware that Ayurvedic treatments for skin problems and bone fractures are much more superior.
