i have a friend. He always belched like crazy, sticking his head out of the window of his car and belching at other drivers, or pedestrians. Then a year or so later, he starts having stomach problems. He goes to the doctor, they do some tests, and find out he's got an ulcer. Could all that belching cause an acidity problem, where maybe it caused the ulcer? Or is it probably something else, like the H-Pylori bacteria that usually causes them?

Actually, I would say that the indigestion and resulting ulcer would only aid his belching... not vise versa. Excessive belching can lead to a hiatal hernia, but other than that, it's just obnoxious... 'nuff said?

I think they could definitely be linked. Sometimes if I am nervous or worried about something I will eat quickly or not pay attention and I will swallow a lot of air. This is turn results in belching. With the nerves, ulcers can appear. Maybe your friend is worrying about something and is bottling it up. The immediate response from is body was burping but the long term result could be the ulcer. Just my hypothesis.

Sadly, no. Belching is just taking in large amounts of air into the stomach, then releasing it. Nothing dangerous about that.
Ulcers are actually caused by a virus. Totally unrelated.
