Brean Down, just south of Weston Super Mare- weston beach is ok too: half of Birmingham is already down there! You could try Minehead beach in Somerset which is very popular; or Woolacombe Bay in North Devon which is a treasure.

What about Weston Super Mare? Or slightly further afield there's lovely beaches in South Wales. Penarth and Ogmore are particularly beautiful.
Pics of some of them are on this link

Its probably a bit of a journey but if you want to spend a couple of days Bournemouth beach in Dorset is lovely, or Weymouth. There are laods of shops bars restaurants in both places and the beaches are golden sand. I often go down to either for a weekend. Hotels or B&B's are not that expensive as there are loads of them.

Weston-Super-Mare! It's just an extension of the Midlands! (You'll know what I mean if you've ever been there!)
