Y is my scanner behaving like this?

It is working fine on 'color' mode but stucks in between while in 'black and white' mode and makes noise and give distorted images

Try reinstalling the scanner's driver.

Just scan in color mode and switch to black and white or greyscale in an image editing program, should actually give you better image quality.
