I observe stray dogs cry in the midnight all at a time. This happens between 11:30 PM and 2:00 AM. I am from India.

dogs are pack animals. they cry or howl just like wolves, to keep in touch with the rest of the group. useful for lotsa group activities. they usually hunt in the night and group up for various nocturnal activities.
or maybe they're depressed.

i am from the philippines and i think that they see dwarves and other things,one time our dog kept on going on a hill and cried and when we were building our house a carpenter took out the hill and he died

its either they see ghosts or they hear loud movements or sounds..
dogs have very sensitive ears..
