I work overnight shifts and have a really jacked up sleep schedule. I use a very thick blanket over the window to make my room as dark as possible, and take two 3 mg melatonin. It is a wonderful organic sleep aid. Helps me fall asleep fast, stay asleep and when I wake I'm not in a total fog like with with chemical sleep aids. After taking the melatonin I turn on some reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaly boring television, which is not hard to find at 7:00 in the morning. The next thing I know my alarm is going off. Time to get up and face another day. If you're into that sort of thing you might also try nature recordings, whale songs, water falls, babbling brooks, or aroma therapy. They say that works, T.V. is all it takes for me. Good luck. By the way you can get Melatonin in the vitamin aisle at any pharmacy, or Wal Mart.

I Don't know how active you are or how long you've had this problem. If most of your day is spent viewing things a short distance from you, focusing your attention on objects at a further distance at the end of the day by taking a nice walk outside will help relax your mind. Theres been times when I have shut my eyes in my bedroom and and named off things in the room from one side to the other using only memory. I used to have to do that frequently a couple of years ago. It my sound goofy, but it helped me out alot. Good Luck!

Are you on amphetamines? You wont sleep for days on that stuff. I heard of someone who didnt sleep for 10 days, then had to be hospitalised with psychosis. Not that I'm saying that's what your problem is. Exercise heaps in the day, and eat heaps at night and you should have no problem sleeping. Also avoid caffeine and high sugar foods at night.

Do not waste your money on the OTC sleep medications. The active ingredient is diphenhydramine (aka Benadryl). Buy the cheap no-name brand in 25 mg pills or capsules. You will save about $2 per usage for sleep.
Chocolate has caffeine, avoid it before going to bed.
What works for me is to close my eyes and then breathe deeply. I do not concentrate on the number of breaths per minute, but I do concentrate on breathing deeply, slowly, and at a steady rate. I then allow my mind to wander, and eventually my mind drifts to a dreamlike state. When that happens, your body will relax on its own allowing you to sleep.
Good luck and happy dreams!
