Everyone's got to make a living! How do you feel about pathetic assholes that have to pay for sex???

A necessary evil. Been around ever since the world was created.

On one hand it is good.It caters to the unmarried, the over sexed, the perverts, the beggars, the throwouts of society. If prostitutes were not around, all these filthy persons would lust and rape the
respectable women, irrespective of age, caste or creed.

This trade provides livelihood to those who are divorsed or raped & not acceptable by their families. Victims of abuse by higher ups in society, the industrialists, politicians and the wealthy, have not other way to survive other than this.

Others who survive on this trade are the cops, thepoliticians, the henchmen, the gangs, smugllers, who not only have a free time, but carry on nefarious activites in these notorious areas where no decent man might set foot.

On the other hand, many young girls and poor women from rural areas are abducted and forced into the trade, which is sad. They are exploited by the pimps who live off their money. When they have children, they too are thrust in the mainstream of this profession. The boys become hawkers, pimps, thiefs etc, and the girls are forced to take on the trade when they grow up.

In Calcutta the prostitue area houses a quarter million women, all ages & sizes, from different parts of country, neighbouring Nepal,
Pakistan,Afghanistan.Foreign students who come to India for studies too come here to make a quick buck.

The lowest rate is Indian Rs.50/-per quick session, ie,US $ 1.12.
The girl takes on average 20 customers a day, with a full night client at Rs.250-500.So imagine, 600 times a month, 7200 times a year, what condition she'll be in 5 years? and the small place they stay in, 8 crammed in a room 8'x10', full of infection, dirt, unwashed linen, lice, nits, rat infested, scanty water available.
And the cruelty and beatings of their keepers.

The price of sex is indeed high.

Prostitution is the oldest profession in the world. In some countries, it is actually a respected profession. I think I read somewhere that in a prominent country in Europe, some politicians actually moonlight as prostitutes at night. To them prostitution is not something to be ashamed about.

I think prostitution is no different a job than say, an actress. If she (or he, let's not get sexist) chooses to sell their services through the use of their body, and someone agrees to buy their services, it is none of our business to interfere or judge. While we might have an opinion of it, it should only apply to ourselves, not to other people.

Prostitution is neccessary for if there weren't people willing to do it, we would have to read about a lot more rape-victims, sexually mistreated children, women and even men and so on. Here in Germany it is legal; the prostitutes are registered by their police-department, have to get a monthly check-up with their gynecologist and their "working places" are usually very diskrete. If they start to be negatively noticed by the public (for example; children feel offended), they will have to change this by moving elsewhere or something like that. Because there are so many weirdos in our world, I am glad that there are prostitutes willing to take that "risk" instead of me being indangered running into a sicko like that...

I see a lot of stereotypical marriage jokes ragging on women. It is not necessary. As for prostitution, it cannot be stopped. In Nevada they have brothels that are safe and secure and make sure the women are not abused or in any danger. The compund is surrounded by a fence and customers have to talk through a speaker to get in, so nobody can harm a girl and escape. They also make sure the women are clean and free of disease. I myself am not in favor of brothels, but for the safety of the women who will do it anyway, it should be legalized and controlled as well as the ones in Nevada.

I am in favour of it! It is a business transaction freely and willingly entered into by both parties. Shame that some people have to pay for intimacy, but that's life, some are lucky enough to get it for free, some don't need it and some are prepared to pay for it.
But I don't approve of people being co-erced into prostitution, prostitutes being mistreated by clients, or any of the other ills that are associated with the profession.

As the saying goes, "If God wanted women to be prostitutes, He would have given them free will and a vagina."

That said, it's (sort of) a free market, there is definitely demand, and it's not exactly a new concept. Some people will see moral issues with it, but that's largely based on the direction of various churches, and should have no bearing on laws if church and state are actually kept separate (your mileage may vary if you live outside the US). There are some significant health issues to consider, but likely legalization would generally make it safer.

It's dangerous. Also, after watching that Lifetime movie about Human Trafficking, starring Mira Sorvino, it makes me think that some prostitutes could actually be victims in that whole human trafficking thing on an international level. So, although an outsider might assume that they're all willing hookers, some of them could be totally forced into it. But either way, it would be a bad situation.

i think it's silly that you can't sell something that belongs to only you and that you can give away for free. if prostitution is regulated and legalized, i have no problem with it.
what about porn? people are paid to have sex with each other for a movie. is that not a form of prostitution?
but there's also the issues of how american society views sexuality in general. american society could not handle prostitution in an adult way because we can't even handle nudity in an adult way.

I wouldn't do it [i'm too fat, and have a boyfriend that i love] and i don't really condone it. If one of my friends was doing it, i would try to stop her, but i understand why some women think it's all they can do, and that some choose it over other occupations. There are respectable, safe, clean prostitutes, but there are also the stereotypical aids-ridden coke whores. I'm not going to pry in others lives as long as they stay out of mine.
