666, The Number of the Beast
------------------------------------------------------------
What's 666? Bible prophecy says that in the future a dictator will head up a global government. He forces everyone to take a 'mark' without which they are able to buy or sell. This mark seems to be a chip implant which will work with some form of digital money. The Bible says that 666 has something to do with that mark.

the letter 7 is the letter representing completeness or perfection in the Bible. So the number 6 is short of perfection times 3, in a way. 666 is the mark of the beast in Revelations. It is also remarkably the number all bar codes relate to mathmatically! We are warned to not accept the mark of the beast, 666, or barcodes, onto our hands or foreheads. It insures being able to buy and sell in the last days but also ensures damnation. Think of it as a credit or debit card that is tatooed or imbedded into our skin. The possibility to do this already exists, so it is not far away in our lifetime.

666 is used in the Revelation book in the bible, written by St John (this book being a letter from John to 7 Christian Churches).

Revelation is a genre of writing as in Daniel (book of the old testament). John uses this genre to convey his message to Christians so that Romans could not grasp the true sense of it. That is the reason why his book is full of codes. But for a Jewish (Christians were still mostly jewish in John's time) it was easy to decipher 666. (John says, 'calculate the number of the beast', which is an incentive to search for the real name of the person John referred to as the beast). Indeed, in Hebrew language, each letter has a numeric value. Adding the value of each letter of a word would give a sum.

666 is the numeric value of 'Nero', the name of the Roman emperor at the time. Hence, 666 referred to the Roman Empire. By extension, the enemy, so the Adversary (=the Satan).

Romans were occupying Jerusalem, and John had to speak in codes to the Christians so that the occupying forces would not suspect him of fomenting a rebellion. Romans would think his book was just a piece of fantasy literature of some kind.

Splinter is "right on" as far as he goes. Taking it a step further, it will be a criteria, or test, at the end of the age to weed out true believers from the riff-raff non believers. It will be the curtain call in eternity (that's like, forever?) for all who accept it... they will have sealed their fate when they accept it into their right hand or forehead; they will not EVER have eternal life, never live with Jesus and God and the holy angels, never know the delights and wonders of heaven. Taking it will be the last step they take where they could have turned around and come into Jesus's kingdom, which he still offers to all: "Whosoever will may come" Why should you perish in the everlasting fires of the damned? Turn around while there is still a chance... But there will come a day, just as in Noah's time, when the ship of God will close the door and sail. That door is still open to "whomsoever will" presently, but when people get so far removed from the Bible and it's truths that they will allow the government or whoever to put the "mark of the beast" (as its called) on them (or in them) then they have sealed their fate... it IS important... don't trifle its significance.

People have puzzled over it since 666 made its first appearance. They try every method to make it mean something. Nobody knows; the reference is quite arcane. It's the number of a man. What does that mean?
Anyway you will see that number borrowed by the crowd of the darker side because it is a symbol of evil. Not hard to figure out how evil is related to demons, is it?

It's the Mark of the Beast given in the book of Revelations. The actual tradition of applying numbers to people/beings stems from the Jewish study of numerology, and though the numerological aspects of the whole "666" thing are not fully explored in contemporary Christian culture, studies into the actual references to "the Beast" in the book of Revelations indicate that 666 refers to one of the Caesars as much of the symbolism in the Book of Revelations ties in directly to known Jewish history within the Roman Empire, though many references to the "666" symbology actually date back to old Babylonian sources, and there is an exhaustive exploration of the Babylonian souce listed below.

Today, 666 as the mark of the beast is taken to mean that one bearing 666 on his brow is the antichrist, but in an older historical context, the one bearing 666 as an identifying marker was--likely--a Roman enemy of the Jewish people, and much of the bloodshed, warfare, violence, and Cecil B. DeMille-style Special effects sequences were based by-in-large on the desires of the Jewish people at the time of the Roman Empire to see their oppressors paying their dues.

It's a spiritual number denoting Satan. It also represents the 6th seal, 6th vial, and 6th trump spoken of in the book of Revelation. They are spiritual events denoting the arrival of the antichrist and the events that transpire.upon his arrival. Hollywood has obviously glamorized the number.

Insofar as it relates to the real world, it has as much significance as the rest of the bible - zilch.
