They add minerals to the water?? thats news to me ;-) Those lying volvic adds!! When you have had an illness like gastroentiritis (I apologise for the spelling) you are quite often prescribed water soluble sachets of minerals as certain ones are essential. Small children are however not allowed to drink mineral water as the high levels of minerals (especially sodium)can be harmful, and I doubt not getting minerals in your water is going to do you harm as long as you have a reasonable diet anyway. Distilled water doesnt taste bad though, it doesnt taste of anything at all. Maybe the person who thought it did could taste the plastic, or it was filtered water not distilled. I think its just because it takes time, effort and money to distill water, which people are not going to spend on a product which is essentially tasteless and has no real benefit over the stuff that comes out of the tap.

I keep distilled water in plastic bottles in the kitchen to put it in the steam iron and I once drank some of it by mistake, thinking it was mineral water. Surprisingly, it didn't taste of nothing, it was actually not at all nice. I should think that's your answer. I don't think it does you any harm, except that we have evolved in our environment and distilled water doesn't occur spontaneously anywhere in nature (even rain picks up dust on the way down), so it must be better for our bodies to drink natural water, which always has some minerals dissolved in it.

Distilled water comes under the heading of soft water. Research has shown that heart attacks are far higher in areas with soft water than hard water areas. It is believed that this is because the body needs the minerals found in hard water.
In addition to that the body works on very weak electrical signals and distilled water does not work. In a battery for example acid has to be added. Drinking distilled water would therefore dilute your body fluids and in making you pee would actually help flush further salts from your system.

Distilled water is water that has had virtually all of its impurities removed through distillation (boiling the water and re-condensing the steam into liquid water in a clean container, thus leaving contaminants behind).
Mineral waters are be bottled at source for distributed consumption.
Therefore distilled water is very expensive to produce and mineral water is not!

Because it'd be pointless to distill perfectly good water for the purpose of drinking it. Several countries DO distill the drinking water from sea water where fresh groundwater supplies are unavailable
There are some myths surrounding the drinking distilled water: eg. that it will leach out essential minerals from your body - rubbish, ALL of the trace minerals are found in our daily food.
The ONLY downside to distilled water is that it is normally un-chlorinated and with no added minerals or fluoride, risking bacterial buildup, losing minisclule of trace elements & tooth cavity protection.

Not only does distilled water lack minerals, but because of this lack of minerals it will actually pull minerals out of your body. There are some detox plans that make you drink distilled for a few days, to pull out metals and what not but it will pull calcium out of your bones and iron out of your blood. So in the long run distilled water can be bad for you.

I've read all the previous answers.......and NONE of them addressed the fact that this pure distilled water (H2O) does not exist in nature......
Most life on this planet evolved with various degrees of dependence on water.....us included.....but water has NEVER been pure in it's natural state.
Pure distilled water lacks certain nutrients and trace elements that are necessary for the well being of ALL life forms....not just humanity.

For health reason one should drink mineral water because our body needs around 30 to 40 essential minerals daily to stay healthy, remember health creates wealth.

It is very strange I was contemplating on this subject as follows:
The following is my personal account, I have been very concerned about quality of the UK tap water. It is made of good minerals + bad additives (such as hormones, pesticides, heavy metals, chlorine, fluorides, etc...). So I purchased a reverse osmosis filter to filter everything out. I checked the total dissolved particles before (78 ppm) and then after it had been filtered (3ppm).
When I gave this filtered water without anything added to it to my kids (2&4 years old) - it gave them a small rash patch on their chin. But when I added some organic cordial orange to their drink, it stopped straight away. So I think when water is mineral deficient, then it will leach minerals out of your body.
For myself, now, I add bit of freshly grinded organic veg juice to it (just 20 ml to a litre) and this prevents me running to loo, every 30 minutes.
So I still recommend it to be used in cooking. Before I was aware that the filter water was mineral deficient, and I used to add celtic (grey & mosit) sea salt to it, to put back some of the natural minerals to it.
However, my naturopath (natural doctor) recommends that I should shy away from salt, due to sodium, as sodium is enzyme inhibitor.
good luck!

Distilled water has no taste. They add minerals to the water so it tastes better.
