If you got a Bible, I'd suggest you to read Job 7:9-10 and Psalm 146:4
Job 34: 14-15 says speaking about God: "If it were his intention and he withdrew his Spirit and breath, all mankind would perish together and man would return to the dust". This verse is the inverse of what happened in Genesis 2:7. So the soul is not a living being in himself. Someone said it is like electricity: it is not light until it gets to the bulb.
The supposedly ghosts are spirits of demons personating a character --such as loved ones, etc--.
However, we're told someday the dead will rise again, and death will be no more (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17; Isaiah 25:8).

Spirits are demons and yes they should scare you, however, they are usually disguised as friendly and good and as "light" so you are not scared but awed and then suckered in by their ways and then you have problems. They don't come back from some person though, they may imitate someone you've known, but the one you've known has reached their destination and there is no return. There are spirits or angels of the Lord as well, however, we are seldom aware of their presence, as it is not their job nor desire to make us aware of their presence. They have a job to do and that is to worship God and obey God and generally are sent to protect us in spiritual warfare. They are not sent here to give us messages from loved ones gone on. Demons will try to do this though.

Spirits cannot harm you - their energy levels are different to ours and they live in a different plane, though in the same planet. If at all a spirit can do something physical, that will be because it has external human influence.

The spirits of your loved ones will come to be with you if they sense you need them. They're not there to scare you. Not on purpose. Sometimes they just want to communicate so you know they're there.
There are no such thing as demons.

If they died of old age and they had a reasonably peacefull life they shuldnt. But if they were murdered or died because of some unfortunate accident, théir spirit will stay around untill it gets revenge. Also if theyre not buried correctly theyll stay around untill someone buries their body so they can rest in peace.

Spirits are not demons. Anyone that says so is a moron.
Spirits are just disembodied energy. Energy never dies... so when something dies it's energy is transformed.
And I don't believe their intentions are to scare anyone. I think they are lost and confused... and are desperately trying to communicate.

Ghosts are figments of the imagination. I get scared by the empty, creepy apartment downstairs all the time.
If I were REALLY scared, I'd say it was a ghost. Heck, I'd believe it was a ghost!
