The one thing that i have against ford is how cheap most of the interior of the vehicles are i use to work at a auto auction and i cleaned the insides of almost every car you could imagine and all the fords that came through had the same problem all the plastic/harware in the vehicle is painted other cars have the hardware made a certain color ford has them all the same color and just paints them later to match then interior of the car and if you try to clean then with the chemicals we had the paint starts to come off they are really cheaply made

the explorer is a good suv.....they now have roll over sensor control. 5 speed transmissions for better fuel mileage. we are seeing allot of people trading in their Chevy's and jap crap for a smoother ride. the 05s are a good deal. old body style you can usually get an XLT in those for around 20,000 saving you about 10 grand. new body style is great...2 inches longer 2inches wider and 2 inches taller if your looking for better mileadge you might wanna consider the freestyle, still seats same but is on a volvo chassis and can get in all wheel drive also gas mileadge on front wheel drive is 27 highway

forgot...ford just upped their warranty coverage on 07s....they now have better warrantys than toyota or all the foreign makes.
5 yrs 60,000 on powertrain with the roadside assistance extended also

Unless you need that much room & towing capacity, I'd say no.
Other than sheer size & towing capacity, an Explorer has no real advantages over a smaller SUV like a RAV4 or Honda CRV, or Subaru (all of which handle better, get better mileage, etc.)

Yes. They are VERY reliable. Also another thing when you are in rough terrain you don't even have to put it in 4 wheel drive. It just keeps going in 2 wheel drive. My mom's explorer has 250,000 miles on it and it's still going. Never had any problems out of it.

i would stay away from new model ford suv's. there are a lot of repair issues with where things are located and it taking forever to fix. think about what features you like and dislike and drive a lot of different suvs before making up your mind.
