Stage IV: Because stage IV stomach cancer has spread to distant organs, a cure is usually not possible. Patients with advanced stomach cancer often need surgery to prevent stomach and/or intestinal obstruction (blockage) or to control bleeding. In some cases, a laser beam directed through the endoscope can vaporize most of the tumor and relieve obstruction without surgery.

Chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy can often help relieve some symptoms but is usually not expected to cure the cancer. The chemotherapy drugs often used include 5-FU, cisplatin, and either epirubicin or etoposide. Docetaxel or irinotecan may also be used. The preferred way to give the 5-FU is by continuous infusion through a catheter (a tube used to inject or withdraw fluids) placed into a large vein. But other approaches may be just as successful. New treatments being tested in clinical trials may benefit some patients. Even if treatments do not succeed in destroying or shrinking the cancer, there are ways to relieve the pain and symptoms from the disease. Patients should tell their cancer care team about any symptoms or pain they experience right way, so they can be effectively managed.

Survival Rate by Stage

The 5-year survival rate is greater than 90% in stage 0 gastric cancer. It is 80% in stage IA and 60% in IB; 34% in stage II disease; 10% - 20% in stage III cancers, and 7% in stage IV tumors. Most patients diagnosed with stomach cancer in the United States have stage III or stage IV cancers. It is important to keep in mind that these survival rates are only averages. Survival is worse if the cancer is in the upper part of the stomach and better if the cancer is in the lower part. No one can accurately predict the outlook of any individual patient. Although the stage of a cancer is useful in estimating a patients outlook, it is not the only factor that influences survival. Some patients' survive much longer than doctors would predict by considering their stage only.

I'm sorry your family is going through this.

this can be an basic one. If the international receives too warm, we've shown that we may be able to live to inform the tale it because the "Cradles of Civilization" were in warm, dry parts. If the international receives chilly, then we've already shown that we may be able to face up to ice a lengthy time period, and that is with out any "extreme" technologies. If the international receives overpopulated, it is going to, out of necessity, stability itself out. i do not imagine we commit to be stricken about surviving the subsequent one hundred years. the authentic question is a thanks to we keep the subsequent one hundred years from starting to be the subsequent darkish Age.
