I'm thinking of names for my baby, and I don't know what the baby's gender is yet. What do you think of "Laine" for a boy or a girl?

I named my daughter Elaina 23 years ago. Most of the time, we call her Laina or Laine.(Lanee) As for a boy, I don't know. But, I love it for a girl. I lived in Hawaii for quite a few years, Laine sounds kind of Hawaiian. If you're talking about pronouncing it like Lane, that sounds good for a boy.

I think it is a nice name but perhaps too feminine for a boy.

The first thing it brought to mind was "Serial Experiments Lain," an anime series about a girl named Lain. It might have influenced my opinion.

No. It's a compromise, choosing a name that can be either sex. It's like Lindsey or Francis. Don't forget, your child has to carry this around the rest of their life, on business cards, on lists of speakers, and no one will ever be sure if Laine will be a man or a woman. Don't do it to him/her. B

I think it's fine for a girl, but not as pleasant as a boys names. Girls seem to be more accepting of the results of unisex names (occasionally being confused for the other sex) than boys are.

for a girl - Love It. I am not sure for a boy, why not just Lane for a boy? Just a thought

I think it's a cute name, although a bit more on the feminine side in my opinion. If it's a girl, she can be called "Lainey", which is darling to hear!
