As in all religion, things can be taken too far, and can be thrown way out of proportion. It's up to everyone as an individual to decide what they believe.
Of course, I'm not out here supporting Christianity, because I'm not one, but you're judging the whole based off of a few. Sure they're ready to condemn people based off a few differences of opinion and all that, but they're not all "You're not like me, you don't believe the same things I do, so you're going straight to hell." Just look at all other major religions, such as Islam and all. They mass-murder in the name of religion and their god as well.
A better question is:
"Why, if we all have the capacity to love, are we all so messed up, and why do we continue to fight over pointless stuff? Why can't we recognize that we're all the same, but totally different, and totally human?"

It's not necessary. Those burnings of people at the stake was horrible, and the mass murders, are NOT Biblical. The people who would do such things were NOT Christians.
The only thing the Bible justifies is the execution of murderers, so that they won't murder again. That's actually a mercy more than anything.

A few people have asked similar questions on here before and all too ofen they were treated to one particular Bible verse that stated God's love is so strong that were a human being experience it, he/she would implode immediately. Then the person answering the question would say something about God's love being so strong that it kills.
I personally would not like to be 'loved' to death. That kinda sounds like an over-bearing parent to me.

i REALLY hope youre not talking about the crusades. i dont think you are, and if you are, then THE CRUSADES WERE BY ROMAN CATHOLICS! THEN CALLED THE "CHRISTIAN CHURCH"!!! and they have a vastly different understanding of: the bible, jesus, etc...
and burning at the stake? salem witch trials, you mean?
i don't know a lot about those...but a lot of quaker types and puritans were involved with those. these are all different takes on( the bible, jesus, etc... )_
that being said, if you're not as stupid as i hope you aren't--
what are you talking about!?!
as for killings, there has to be punishment and enforcements somewhere. i read in this old book someplace and i quote:
"spare the rod, spoil the child."

Christ never taught men to kill...evil people have been trying to excuse their own evil deeds by blaming them on God for ages...and still there are gullible people willing to fall for that lame excuse "i did it for God"...no one ever did evil for God, any more than the Son of Sam killed all those people for a dog...

Persecution against Christians were started by NERO' period. Christians were persecuted or killed for following Christianity. Jesus himself said in the Bible, cost must be paid for following him. Discipleship is to die to oneself. earth is a temporary Shelter for true believers of Christ. The CAUSE for which we live is more than one self.

You will go to Hell for saying that! You forget that God loves everybody and that's why He is happy to have sadistic psychopaths torture and kill people in His name because God want to appeal to everyone. You see how loving God is.

Jesus Christ in no way or fashion approved of how the Catholic religion of that time treated others. The Catholic Church has a lot of blood on their hands.
