YES, even if it has 'massive disk brakes on the rear'. They are NEARLY always cable operated, with a few exceptions.

It can be called an emergency brake, a parking brake or a hand brake.

An automatic (non-stick shift) car will have a 'P' setting to lock the GEARBOX and prevent the wheels rolling - this is in addition to a manually operated device.

Several high-end luxury cars, eg. Audi A8 simply have a electrinic button which engages & disengaged the 'parking brake'.

Trucks & buses sometime have an air-brake as a hand/parking brake.

"It's Wire Based, because in emergency situations generally electrical systems may malfunctions making Hydraulic Systems in-active... Hydraulic systems are only functional when the car is running, if car is out of control, then it makes more sense to put as many functions on the manual mode as possible to make sure that driver gets most of the Controls... that's why wire Based brakes are more reliable when in crisis." Most of what you have said is wrong. There is almost no electrical components to the brake system(the brake lights and the abs system). If the abs (electrical) fails, it does not stop the operation of the brakes. And if the whole electrical system was to fail it would not effect the hydraulic at all. Also the hydraulic system is functional at all times,(if the car is running its operational and if the car was off and not running it is sill operational. The pedal will be much harder to push down (when not running) because a booster is used to help with applying the brake(the brakes are still going o stop the car and are operational). This system runs off of vacuum that is only present in a running internal combustion engine. So your wrong on all accounts.) So lets take a stab at your last guess at how a car works. Cable based brake systems are not used much any more due to the fact they are unsafe. Cables are more likely to stretch and brake, also the force you apply using a cable system is not anywhere near the force you can apply using hydraulics.

These people......(shakes head)

A "handbrake" emergency brake is operated by HAND and is found in most manual shift cars (some automatics as well). All cars have emergency brakes. Not ALL emergency brakes are operated by hand.

Some hand brakes are split between the two rear tires. Two handbrakes, right and left, for quick steering. Mostly for racing though.

The very first car didn't have ANY brakes, as one poster got wrong, which led to the invention of the brake.

All vehicles have a parking brake (also referred to as an emergency brake) but not all of them are operated by hand. Some have a foot pedal, located on the far left (against the kick panel).

all commercial vehicles need a parking break. That doesn't mean that they all have a classical handbrake. Mercedes has a system that works with a fourth pedal next to the clutch; And more and more brands are evolving towards semi automatic systems(operated by buttons or small levers e.g. ford C max )
or fully automated parking brakes (stop the car brake goes on; start and it goes off e.g. Renault Scenic)

A lot of america cars have an "emergency brake" it's another pedal on the left and it's released using a lever under the dash. it operates in the same way as a handbrake but as it's not got a handle I guess you can't call it a handbrake.

so No not all cars have handbrakes but they all have emergency brake systems.
