Legally, if you check bags, you can not leave the airport, that is called abandonment. But they dont actually follow up on it, so just dont say anything or make it known to the agents that you plan on leaving the airport at your connection point. If your lay over is 6 hrs or more, your bags will only be checked to Amsterdam and you will have to recheck them in Amsterdam anyway. After reading some reviews checking to AMS may be in your best interest. They have been rated as one of the worst airports for baggage handling problems for transfer passengers luggage.

Luggage Lockers: Available in the central and west Departures lounge. NLG 5.00 per day; time limit 3 days.

i'm with WiIlleke in this one. mutually as the traintrip to Amsterdam does not take plenty time each little thing around it probably will. Getting on and stale the plane, waiting for the prepare, risk-free practices checks, etc. ultimate to stay on the airport. no could desire to be scared on the airport. it is totally present day and group is powerful. i could wander around the situation, look on the museum (it is just one little corridor genuinely) and then spend the the remainder of the time relaxing someplace. Bringing a e book could be a sturdy concept. with the aid of the way, attempt some stroopwafels while you're on the airport. :)

As long as you have the proper documentation and enough time to clear customs leaving the airport and again upon your return, there should be no problems. I often leave airports during long layovers on flights within the same country and international flights. Make sure you check with someon at the local airport to see what the average time is for processing back through to the gate, and do not forget your boarding passes!

Happy travels!

If your visa status is okay, yes. You can leave your carryon in the luggage storage downstairs. The easiest way to get into Amsterdam is by train -- again downstairs. Just ask one of the folks at the ticket office. If you can, get a map of Amsterdam before you go. Everything can be reached by bus or walking. Even the area just outside the the train station is interesting. You can also go to Den Hague in stead of Amsterdam if you have the time.

Yes you can, I have done it. Make sure you have a long enough layover, make sure you have your passport and other important personal info, and make sure your baggage is already checked back in. I would bring any carry on with me if I were you. I had a 6 hour layover in Amsterdam...city is close. I went to the Ann Frank House, the Van Gogh museum, and the Henniken brewery...all lots of fun and its fairly easy to get around. Make sure though that you give yourself time to get back through customs because it can be super long there.

If you have enough time to leave the airport and come back and check in then, yes!
But be aware if you leave the airport you have to check back in and go through security again!

The amsterdam airport in itself is cool - interesting architecture, and its really big (downside is that it takes forever if youre late!). I dunno about being able to leave the airport, but if you cant, youll have enough stuff to entertain yourself with anyway.
