I am a cosmetologist and dead ends is a slang term for burnt out, over exposed, split, or whatever is wrong with your hair. Sometimes it's just ragged and old- the elements break down the hair's properties. Cosmo ladies back in the day of aerosol happy beehives coined this term as they couldn't explain it better to their clients. Hair looks alive because it grows- but it's all dead. We use slang just like everybody else.

Perhaps you are meaning split ends? If you have alot of split ends your hair grows slower because it is in bad condition. Also getting a regular trim stimulates hair growth so I've been told...
Go figure...

its better to cut of those dead ends or split ends because ur hair will look dry and it will also cause tangles that will harm some of ur hair that doesnt have split ends yet.
to avoid getting ur hair from dead ends or split ends...try using hair doctors or comb ur hair with care and use conditioner to help u to avoid tangles that cause split ends..

idk, but i can tell u from personal experience, that it actually does make a difference. but aside from that there's also the fact that hair grows the most during two specific times of the year, and that's when most people get theur hair cut, so they think that's the cause. ( i think it's winter and summer maybe?)
