old grandad bought caravan east coast with winnings from horse called shangrila..would be about 1948 to 1960

The only horse I can find that fits is a chestnut gelding born in 1961 by Aureole (GB) out of Heaven's Gate (GB).

He was a fair handicapper at 3 and was trained by T W Robson, he was sold late in 1964 to race over hurdles and managed to win at least once in 1964/1965.

Sorry I can't find anything more specific, but the information may help you track down some more stuff.
