I can partly answer my own question. I attended a Catholic school for many years and had to deal with religious studies of the man-made Bible--which is filled with paradoxical theories and utterly sexist stories, hypocrisy among Catholics, and a sense of "superiority" in that this is the accepted cult of America. Oh, and I also had a psycho Protestant roommate my first year of college who told me that I would rot in Hades' fire for wearing makeup.

Additionally, it seems Christianity is a selfish, self-contradicting religion in that God shuns everyone who beliveves in other deities, regardless of whether they believe in Him or not.

And not to mention, our illiterate President uses Christianity as a reason to wage war despite separate state and church laws and practices in America.

But I digress. What other LEGITIMATE reasons can you think of for finding Christianity irritating without resorting to mindless insults such as "you are an idiot, etc."?

1) Superiority complex
2) Conveniently ignoring much of the old testament
3) Intolerance, when that is what they preach.
4) Interference with state decisions.
5) They worship words and men, rather than Jesus. I don't believe a good god or Jesus would condone some modern christians' hatred, killing, and lack of love of fellow man.
6) Being so rich, and yet often not stepping outside the church walls to help others. The people who need the most help probably aren't dressed in their sunday best at church!

Sorry had to go out so couldnt elaborate, but there's a few! Points 1, 4, 5 and 6 annoy me greatly.

check out some of my questions if you want some further difficult religious questions.

I come from a Christian upbringing. What I find most irritating is the blindness to folly. I was reading a Creation magazine at my parents place and laughing uproarously at an article that claimed that dinosaurs were present on the Ark. That sparked a debate that soon denigrated into an argument. Also, obscure scripture is so often quoted to back any argument, regardless of how specific the reference is. For eg, my brother and I were discussing the death penalty. My brother said that God / Jesus would support the death penalty because Jesus said "the town sherriff does not carry a sword for nothing" (I'm paraphrasing). I was stunned. THat to me says nothing more than "a cop doesn't carry a gun for nothing", which is hardly tacit support for the DP. Any my parents and brother are highly educated and intelligent people. How can they possibly believe what they assert?

Thanks For Your Question Tintin :)

Well I know that the Christianity is falling apart and its a fact ...people are escaping from it to any other religion they find in it spiritual satisfaction....so why don't you try to read about other religions ?? and since according to my religion I must try to guide you

try to search for The Book that have the answers for all your questions, The Book that people memorize it from 1st page till last one, The Book that has never been changed since it was created, The Book that has many things that prove the existence of God which is scientific facts, The Book that never contradict the logic or itself, The Book that still didn't loose its original language search for The Book of God and I'm sure if you truly searched God will guide you

By the way I didn't told you may religion yet ....but on second thoughts I wont :) have a good day and peace be upon you

i guess the big thing i have against christianity - from what i've seen in the christians i've met - is the circular reasoning, and the refusal to admit imperfection. we had a group of speakers at our school a while ago, and they were exactly what i'm talking about. we asked a few tough questions, but rather than admitting they didn't know the answer, they brushed it off with done-up versions of "god is great" or "the bible is always right". from my (admittedly limited) understanding of the bible, aren't humans meant to NOT know everything about god? and these people were coming up with nonsense to hide that, rather than admitting their own imperfection. so i guess that's the big one.

the other thing is the rejection of science (though this is less of an issue) - especially the statistic that something like 60% of americans completely believe that the universe was created in 6 days and is 6000 years old. that worries me quite a bit....

hope those count as "legitimate" reasons

I attended a Catholic school in 7th grade... worst year of my life. I was belittled in front of all by my religion teacher of all people for not knowing all the bible stories any "good" catholic should know.
Even when I was a little girl I would go to chirch and Sunday school and think that what they were teaching was mostly lies.
My grandmother is a strict catholic and thinks that if you dont believe in the catholic relion, dont go to church every Sunday, and dont vote republican, you will burn in hell. Funny because she is one of the most miserable people I know.......
Yes, It is weird how we have this president now that uses the age old form of brainwashing we call religion to fight a useless war. Sad, because we have all those kids over there being killed over somthing so irrational.

And that is why christianity is irritating.

Because Christianity is not based on what Christ was really trying to do. Our spirit rebels against the teachings of law and faith and hell and judgement. These things were fulfilled.

Jesus taught the law harshly and then died for it. All is finished. All are equal and all are righteous. Paul knew this. The apostles may have known it, but they chose to follow traditions and keep the old laws. Which screwed everything up. And you have the big contradictory mess we see now.

There is a way to show these people that their bible does not say what they think it says. They are being taught in manipulative blinidng ways.

I think you are still seeking answers that you don't have. It sounds like you would feel comfortable in an a group called the Society of New Reasoning, which is a group of people who have become confused my so many religious doctrines and have gotten tired of the many arguments. So, this group set aside all religious arguments, are allowed to believe in the one true God, or any god of their choice, but with the realization that there exists good and evil, right and wrong, and this group works to recognize the difference between the two.

I have a similar experience. I went from Catholic to Born Again to Agnostic. I've just kept my last conversion to myself until I started answering these Yahoo questions. I don't get irritated by Christianity. I just allow people to practice their religion. I even celebrate Christmas because it's a family tradition. Outside of these Q&A's, the only time I would show irritation is if one get's in my face about religion.

I recommend you start getting irritated by all religions, not just christianity (deliberate non-capitalization to anger the godly). An awful lot of wars, death and suffering caused by religion throughout history would seem a legitimate reason to be irritated. If it wasn't for religion all those people in the middle east would have intermarried and interbred centuries ago and World War III would perhaps not be imminent.

Bush was governor of Texas for 8 years and has been
President for 6 years. You don't get these kind of jobs by
being illiterate. The reason for the wars are to destroy the enemy...you know those idiot terrorists who have been trying
to destroy our civilization for the last several years.
As to WHY Christianity irritates you; salt put in a wound can
be very irritating
