He will probably deploy. Iraq, Afghanistan or the Balkans are the most likely places.

We are an Army at war. After 9/11 everything changed.

If he is in the Guard then he will be in one of three statuses:

1) Deployed
2) Been deployed and returned
3) Waiting to be deployed.

There are National Guard troupes in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and every other place that the United States has regular Army troupes. The don't call them "citizen soldiers" for nothing.

I can tell you from experience, it depends on his mos. The National Guard gets sent to combat more than anyone wants to admit. When war breaks they are usually some of the first to go. I served 8 years and started with desert storm.

Current trend is to send the Guard first, to avoid a draft. I would say he is a little naive for a soldier.
