I have a friend who got his degree in Theology from William and Mary University. He is always talking about how once in heaven, everyone spends their time praising God, and that is it, for eternity. Is this true?

Well, who knows? I would hope that in heaven I can smoke all the pot I want without consequence, play the guitar like Jimi Hendrix or David Gilmour, and have lots of fun. I would be praising God for being able to do everything I wasn't able to do on Earth. It's freedom, baby, YEAH!
If that sounds a bit blasphemous, it is not my intention. I just believe that in Heaven anything and everything should be possible, and it should be different things to different people. I'd love to be able to sit by a river of crystal, strumming a guitar, and talking to Jesus about anything and everything. Perhaps it's my perception of happiness that's skewed, but...that's what I would want, and I think that God realizes that everyone is different.

Actually, there's no one in heaven at this time! Everyone that has died- are in their graves, and will remain there until the resurrection!

When the resurrection comes- then we will reign with Christ here on earth- NOT in heaven!

Rev 5:10 and have made them kings and priests to our God; and they will reign on the earth."

Rev 20:5 But the rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection.
Rev 20:6 Blessed and holy is he that has part in the first resurrection. Over these the second death has no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him for a thousand years.

Well, think about what our Heavenly Father does.

He's very busy creating, and taking care of His children.

I guess we'll be doing stuff like that.

In the Book of Revelation, God makes a number of promises to those who manage to overcome the world, and through the grace of God, successfully make it to Heaven:

God will put you in charge ...
Rev 2:26 And he that shall overcome and keep my words unto the end, I will give him power over the nations.

God will bestow great honor upon you, along with eternal life ...
Rev 3:5 He that shall overcome shall thus be clothed in white garments: and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life. And I will confess his name before my Father and before his angels.

God will let you hang out with him ...
Rev 3:12 He that shall overcome, I will make him a pillar in the temple of my God: and he shall go out no more. And I will write upon him the name of my God and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God, and my new name.

God will even let you sit on his throne ...
Rev 3:21 To him that shall overcome, I will give to sit with me in my throne: as I also have overcome and am set down with my Father in his throne.

God will share all that he is with you, who will be his beloved son or daughter forever ...
Rev 21:7 He that shall overcome shall possess these things. And I will be his God: and he shall be my son.

Those who believe this happens only after the resurrection are mistaken. The Catholic Church correctly teaches, based on scripture AND the oral tradition of Christ and the apostles, that the just are in heaven right now, as you read this, and enjoying their promised reward.

All will receve a new, glorified body on the last day, which will reconstitute them as complete, composite beings, composed of body, mind, and spirit, just as God has always intended, but there's no need to wait, dead in the grave for thousands of years, to receive your reward.

2Corinthians 5:7 (For we walk by faith and not by sight.) 2Co 5:8 But we are confident and have a good will to be absent rather from the body and to be present with the Lord.

Mat 22:29 And Jesus answering, said to them: You err, not knowing the Scriptures nor the power of God.
Mat 22:30 For in the resurrection they shall neither marry nor be married, but shall be as the angels of God in heaven.
Mat 22:31 And concerning the resurrection of the dead, have you not read that which was spoken by God, saying to you:
Mat 22:32 I am the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob? He is not the God of the dead but of the living.

Mar 12:26 And as concerning the dead that they rise again have you not read in the book of Moses, how in the bush God spoke to him, saying: I am the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob?
Mar 12:27 He is not the God of the dead, but of the living. You therefore do greatly err.

If that's ALL they do in heaven, I'd rather go to hell. I just hope the beer is cold and there is plenty of it.

who said there's "time" in heaven?
I think its just a state being. I assume it will be something like complete ectacy, but all we can do is guess.
