Why does life have to have a purpose?
Are chickens and cows born into the world for a reason other than that humans want to slaughter and eat them?
Most chickens and cows never would have been born if we didn't want to consume them.
Is that purpose?
Life is an exquisite accident. A lot of religous people are very uncomfortable with that notion, but "purpose" is an exclusively HUMAN concept. The Universe doesn't have an agenda. It doesn't care whether species are created or go extinct, or whether you or I succeed or fail, live or die.
There is a calm comfort in knowing, and accepting, that the Universe is utterly indifferent. A capricious god, at various moments loving, and at others wrathful, is far more frightening. I have a hard time understanding why so many people chose to live in the shadow of such uncertainty.
The above is not to be confused with the idea of us giving our INDIVIDUAL lives purpose, but that's a purpose in relation only to the other lives around us. Work that is satisfying. Activity that enriches us and those around us, that makes society more secure and content.
It is, therefore, the antithesis of greed, and envy, and lust and, well, the so-called Seven Deadly Sins. Decide how you, yourself, can make you life better by makinbg others' lives better, and you'll have your answer.

1. Life is the consequence of your parents' sexual act, to begin with. Then, it's a biological phenomenon by which you're born, you grow, you get old, and you die. There is no purpose to it, other than the one you choose to give it. So the second part of question (1) would be different by each person.
2. I don't mind god, since I don't even think there is one. What I don't like is living in a world with organised religions, which set rules and laws which everybody is supposed to follow, regardless of their religion. For example, I resent that I cannot work on Good Friday or on Christmas Day, while those days mean absolutely nothing to me, and I have a right for that to be so. (Just in case, I am an employee, so I don't get to decide when I go to work and when I don't).

1. Life has no purpose. We just live, that's all.
2. No. Probably I have this refusal because I don't like the idea of something that's ruling over me. But i'm not a real atheist. I do not follow any religions, but I don't know if I believe in a god or not. Sometimes it looks more likely that it exists, sometimes it sounds stupid. In my case, I just don't care about it.

1) Life is the unltmate endulgence as apposed to death, which is the ultimate abstinance. The purpose of lufe is simply to live. To be fulfilled. To sow your seed and provide a benificial world for that seed to grow.
2) At first I was scared to let go of the thought that God exists. I was always raised Atheist, but theology in general simply hadn't occured to me until one night my dad asked me, very sternly, do I believe in God. I told him I did, but just because that's the response I thought was expected of me. Stupid society. Ever since that night, at a very young age, I pondered "God". Like I said, at first I was affraid to be alone in the universe. I soon came to the conclusion that there was no senteint being called God. There was likely some force, indistinguishable from the universe itself, that held everything together. But this force, whatever it is, it's inconcerned with individual suffering. My take on this "devinity" has varied very little ever since.

i am not an atheist, but i don't believe in god, does that count for you?
i see the purpose of my life to be a good person accomplish things that i want to do, if there is another greater purpose the i am too insignificant to know it.
i have never wanted to live with an illusion of god because it's bigoted and makes no sense.

1. There is no purpose. We need no purpose. Why do you think there should be a purpose?
2. god doesn't exist, and it doesn't matter anyway because the result of their being a god or not makes no difference to your life or mine.

1) I see life as a string of precious physical moments on earth. I am happy to be alive every day and to put each day to enjoying what there is to enjoy on this earth and to help others who are suffering be able to enjoy those things as well. I don't think there's anything after this, so I try to make the most of every moment while I'm here. I really fear dying and I fear the loss of my loved ones. Instead of always being in fear, I try to just be really grateful I'm still here and that my loved ones are as well.
2) I have wanted to attain the same comfort that others have from believing in God. I have tried to believe, but it just doesn't make any sense to me. I find that believing in God is like believing in any mythological figure. God and the tooth fairy could be the same to me, they are just made up by people. I understand the importance of belief to people and I respect that they need God and that God has helped them, but I just have not had that experience, and I think that's okay for me. I gain the same comfort from talking to myself, or writing in a journal, and at least I don't feel like I'm lying to myself about something I just cannot believe exists.

1. We give ourselves purpose.
2. A world with a God would be wonderful, but sorry, it isn't reality. I can't live my life on what I'd like, I have to live it with what it is.

Purpose of life- raising my kids to become responsible adulds and hopefully installing my values in them to be passed on to the next generations. Ultimatly to die for the good of the next generation.
Living in a world with god- the pictures I've seen look all peacefull, the lion laying with the lamb and yet I also see beauty in the cheetah chasing the antelope. For some reason I just can't imagine it.
