Depends how much you want to spend, but I would suggest anything that encourages him to get out of the house, away from the TV, X-Box, internet etc. How about one of these....

Tennis or golf lessons (if he's good he can make millions!!)
Tickets to a sporting event
A kayaking trip
A pushbike or a skateboard
Any kind of sporting apparatus, eg a football
A dog (only if his parents approve and are supportive)

A skill. This is about the time you should get started nurturing his ability in one or another skill that he can choose. Music, mechanics, dance, baseball, etc. And if you have already started this, take it to the next level by buying him something that would push him further. So, ifhe is into robotics then by him some higher grade building materials then he was using, if he is into drawing then buy him a studio desk, etc.

a game called 20 Qs, you can get it at any toy store. It's an electronic hand held game. You think of an object, and the game asks you no/yes questions. Then it tries to guess what you are thinking of. it gets it right alot!! i got this for my 10 year old cousin and he played it for 2 hours. it's great and makes them think.

Funny. I like the first 2 posts. Video game's or a video game system. I do not know what he likes or how much you are going to spend.

I'm not fat but I do not like sports , bikes and stuff like that. I do however like swimming and I used to play a lot of basket ball. But now I like electronics. So everyone likes different things. Tell us more and we can give better info.

A new bike - This would encourage exercise, balance and traffic awareness. Kids see bikes as toys and not as tools. Great way to teach a child many things while they think it's only fun.

How about an educational game for the computer that is also fun? I hated it at the time, but my parents made me learn to type. There are games to help people learn to type. It is a good skill to have for the future. There are ways to make it fun.

The remote controlled race cars, or a rocket design of some type. Something that would appeal, not boring stuff like lets say maps. lol =] Good luck!
