No and no. The STAR card is a rip off (personal opinion), and I rarely shop AAFES.

Have one, use it online. Haven't had any problems with it. If you're asking because you want to get started and don't know how, read on.
If you've never used the AAFES website, it's simple. Go the AAFES hompage and select Exchange Credit Central from the drop menu under the section with the same title. If you've never used it, like it says, your login info will be your SSN and your birthdate in YYYYMMDD format. You can either leave it this way or change it later. It will then direct you to a screen where you have to enter your Star Card number. Do that and you'll be able to view statement, pay bills, etc.
If you're just shopping, go to the AAFES home page and enter the same information after selecting Shopper Log-in from the menu on the top of the screen. If you then want to buy something, just select Military Star from the menu in the payment options and I think all the information is stored automatically.
While I'm not going to defend AAFES itself, because I know it's faults after being strictly at its mercy for over 3 years, some deals are available, and the Star Card is not necessarily bad. Our APR tags in at about 11%, because we pay our bills so there's no need to hike it to a ridiculous 21% as stated above. You also have access to other vendors, including Books a Million and some clothing stores, etc. that offer military discounts and will let you pay with your Star Card if you access them through Centric Mall, also on the AAFES website. But do shop around. I saved $15 on a feeder for my cats by buying it from the pet supply site, even after shipping fees, than I would have paid at AAFES. The crystal and some other gift-type stuff you can usually get pretty cheap though, comparitively.

Yes, have one, and used it online. What exactly are you curious about? lol, I am guessing you want to log on huh? Well you have to registor online first. Then get a logon name, password. Then you have to find the Star card page. You will be asked for you card number, then you can view your account info, and status. Plus get notices in your email about payments you've made. Hope this helps. But be a bit more specific. lol
