In God's own words, "I am the Alpha and Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End." If you accept the Holy Bible as the irrefutable Word of God, here He is telling anyone who will listen that He is the beginning and the end. That means, He has always been, and is not a product of creation; certainly not in the sense that you and I perceive creation to be.

I know it's tough to imagine something that has always been. But God's ways are not our ways. I, for one, am happy to take His Word on the whole matter.

If, on the other hand, The Holy Bible is not an infallible reference for you, there's not much to talk about, as there are no eye witnesses to the creation (or not) of God in the Alpha days.

In any event, God bless you, and thank you for having the courage and curiosity to ask such a tough question.

Though you have said that you dont want an answer from the Bible, I have no choice but to give you one because its from the Bible that we get to know about God. Am sorry if you will not be satisfied but I wish you all the best in looking for another answer.
Read John 1:1 it says In the begining there was the word and the word was with God and the word was God so that is how he came to be.

We create our own Gods everyday to suit our desires but the Christian God was not created. He has always existed and will forever exist. I wish that people would stop asking Christian to not use their bible to answer questions. As a Christian all my faith and knowledge comes from my bible so to ask me not to use it would be like asking someone to not use an instruction manual to put something complex together. God Bless

Matter cannot be created nor destoryed.

That's a law of science. Conservation of matter.

The matter in the universe has always been here, alwasy will be here in basically the same mass, just in a different form.

Doesn't that sound like God?

If one can't believe God is eternal, how can one believe matter is eternal?

And who or what created matter?

It just is!

Even Science has to get down to that fact!

It just is!

So, Athiests, Agnostics and Religious people ALL have to agree on one thing:

Some things in this universe have always been here and will always be here.

Think about this. I've seen this question before, and I answered it, so I'm going to answer you the same way, only in different words.
God has always existed, the same way time has always existed. Before there was man around to classify time into seconds, minutes, hours, and days, time existed. God didn't need anyone to try to classify It, much the same way that time didn't need anyone to exist.
Once you can comprehend time, you can comprehend God. By the way, it probably won't happen. I've spent twelve years trying to comprehend time, and though I'm closer than others, in the scheme of things I've barely begun.

It's kind of funny that you want a Christian answer to a question but you don't want it to come from God's word. Where do you think we get our beliefs from, our own personal opinions and biases?

There is an answer. If you really want to know, you can find it in the Holy Bible.

Happy searching!

God is not God if he is created. Therefore God exist from everlasting to everlasting, where human mind is too limited to understand.
