I used to get them every two weeks and they lasted 3 days...thank goodness, since being put on an otc regime by my neurologist, I rarely have one anymore.

I had to:
stay in a dark room
have absolute quiet
apply ice pack to forehead
self inject imitrex...which did not help!

I also had to keep a bucket next to the bed for vomiting. It was not at all pleasant! I recommend that you see a neurologist, if you haven't already. Many people are helped by medications and, if you get more than one a month, you can be put on preventative medications. Prescription preventatives didn't work for me because I had reactions to all of them. That is when I was put on the otc cocktail and it changed my life. Believe me, a visit to the neurologist can give you a new painfree lease on life!

Aside from some of the illegal advice you've received, I'd suggest seeing a doctor that specializes in migraine headaches.

I've suffered from these for many years until I found a neurologist who prescribed a medication called Midrin for me.

I take this medication the very instant I feel a migraine coming on.

It works 100% of the time.

Instead of being out of commission for an entire day, most times I can carry on my regular routine without any of the pain and nausea.

Good luck!

Lie down in a cool, dark and quite room. Excedrin Migraine works well for me when I get a headache. You can also go to the ER and they will give you a shot. You will need someone to drive you home.

Check you can do this first with your doctor...as soon as you feel a migraine take two asprin, it thins the blood and apparently works well. Check with doc though as some people are unable to take asprin

If you get them a lot go to hospital for a shot.(DEMEROL;)
I just learned this and I have had them all my life!
Otherwise take about 1000 mg acetaminaphin and lay down in a very dark and completely silent room alone.
I fold a pillow under my neck so it is a little hyperextended.
I can't just lie down flat.
Good luck.These suck bigtime!
