Its a Christian legacy. Parents used to name their kids after the Saints and Angels - during Baptism and Confirmation, and reeling off the child's whole name when frustrated or threatening, is basically invoking the names of the Saints and Angels - used to be for help with a problem child, but also along the line of "God and his Angels & Saints help you, if you don't do this..."
- hope you buy this one!

It's the only reason I can think of for anyone to even have a middle name. I test-yelled my boys names before I decided on them. If they sounded good being yelled down the block, then it's a good name.

No, my parents use my first and middle name as a term of endearment (I am 22). I use my husbands first and middle name when he is not listening to me or I am trying to be serious.

Mine didn't! If they were mad they'd just come find me and beat me, besides my mommie says that if she called my name that would give me a warning AND time to run or lock the door!!

Yes, they do. And love it.
I find its a nice way to be condescending towards friends too if you know their middle name.

First and middle. My son is called by his first and middle name so much, that when his baby sister started calling him by name, she only addresses him by his first AND middle name.

My folks definitely did. Now that I'm a mom I find myself doing it too! I guess we really are products of our upbringing! :-D
