Congratulations on getting your high school diploma.

What you are describing sounds like depression and it is important to see a health care practitioner and get appropriate medication. Generally the medication works in as little as one or two weeks.

You should tackle college when you are able, but the mental health issues you described are more important to deal with for now. Some people can deal with both, some can't.

Typically most people can function fairly well with treated depression. If you are one of these, depression will not disrupt your college plans. However, there is the chance that there is more going on here than simple depression.

When you leave home for college that is considered a stressful situation because it is a major life transition. So you want to make sure that you can handle this adjustment. If you still feel depressed, your health care practitioner may advise against the transition. In this case, you can shoot for next semester.

Make sure to follow your health care practitioner's advice when it comes to taking medication. For example, if you are told to take
medication for a year, even if you feel better don't stop taking the medication because depression often returns as the medication wears off. You will want to pick an appropriate time to taper off that is free of responsibility such as summer vacation.

One thing you will want to check into is whether decent and reasonably priced mental health care is available at the school. If it is free, make sure you take advantage of this as you will learn more in therapy than you could ever learn in a college class.

- not a therapist

You've come such a long way already to give up now would mean all of the past years were worthless. All people loose hope when they are at school and it is a HUGE transition to go to college. If you quit now you'll hate yourself later.

Take a break, chill out and relax you still have a few months before college starts it is a major acheivement to get into a college stop beating yourself up and be proud of our far you have come. Life is full of set backs...but it takes a real winner to seek help and then pull themselves together and move on...for what it is worth I beleive in you. You can do this suicide is the losers way out.

Think about if you go to your best friend look them in the eye and say you want to kill them and your family and see how bad that feels and that is nothing to the pain it would really cause if you did kill yourself there are plenty of others in the world who will never have the oppotunity to go to a school and you want to give up now? I don't think you really do! Just take a break read a good book, hang out with your friends or what ever it is that young people do these days.

Life is too short to waste...think about it please... you can do this....Do not drop out of school it is a damn long way back. I finished school in grade 10 because I got married and had a family (too young) it took me years to fight my way back into school and get my degree and even though I won't change it for the world there is a much easier way...STAY IN SCHOOL

1st **CONGRADULATIONS** on your graduation, 2nd If you are having mental heath issues than maybe now is not the best time to pursue a college education. If you are seriously considering suicide than you should go to your emergency room. They do have psychiatric services 24 hours a day. If you don't want to go to college the world will not end. If you are able to tell your parent(s) and get a job. I know sometimes life does suck totally but it will not always be this way when you get a little older and have a family of your own you will be glad you chose to get help for your psych problems. I know been there and have kids with depression issues it is usually hereditary. Good luck and life will get better.

Do NOT kill yourself. That is never the answer. An ex boyfriend of mine recently committed suicide and his family and friends are absolutely miserable. Think about the people who love and care for you. Suicide is selfish. I was very depressed and in a weird place when I graduated. I didn't think things would turn out well, but they did. I went to my junior college and transfered and everything went awesome after that. Give it time. This time in your life is a weird transition. Above all, do not harm yourself. If you feel that's the only way out, please tell someone close to you.

If this is truely a serious question, I would suggest talking at least to a parent or a friend about the thoughts you are having. Know that alot of attempted suicides change their mind at the last minute or right after they have begun. My best advice is talking to a counselor or even a therapist. As for dropping out of school I would urge you to push your way through school. It leaves more options for you later down the road.

Hello Nina, you are thinking about dropping out of school after all you have achieved it must be difficult to make that kind of discision , espcially if you have others things bugging you at the present time. What I suggest is that you go and speak to an independant careers advisor someone outwith your high school and someone who can listen and offer impartial advice. Alternatively What how about a favourite Aunt or friend to talk through your problems with someone who has empathy with you . Nina you would be astonished if you knew just how many problems we all have to cope with in life; you have to try and balance the unimportant ones with the important and then throw out the unimportant for they will sort themselves out believe me. In life we all have to have lows and highs that is what makes us strong, and loving human beings. One last word your education is very important but you do not necessary have to go to college to learn. You could get a job and go to evening classes to get those qualifications-earn whilst you learn. So you see there are ways through problems just trust someone enough to talk them through with you. Contemplating suicide as a solution is not, seeking help is. Good luck Bonnie Lass!

God you poor thing your exams and everything else in general must have been terrible, do you feel you want to carry on in education just now or would you really like a gap year, are you been pressured by someone to stay in school, talk to them if you are and make them understand what the pressure is doing to you, if you can't talk to close family and friends then ask your doctor to send you to someone for help or ask some of us on here to help with some of the things that are bothering you, some of us really do care, don't do anything silly you have so much to look forward to honestly.

If you feel like you want to die and are having thoughts of suicide,
Then you need to see a doctor as soon as you can. These feelings and thoughts are the symptoms of the Illness called Major Depression. If you feel like you are in danger of committing suicide, go to the hospital emergency room right away!

I worked on a psychiatric unit in a hospital as a Registered Nurse for over 20 years and I have had this problem myself.
Please don't listen to people who give answers that are different than this. They don't know what they are talking about. There is effective help for you, please see your doctor.

Suicide isn't even an option. Think of all of the people that you would hurt.I have had the gun to my head more than once in my life and stopped to think of others.Just the way that you must. Stay in school.Things will get better as you get older and wiser, you will see.Do for others and they will do for you.Help others and they will help you.If at any time you are troubled talk to someone.Mother, father sister, brother or cousin. You have someone out there that will help you.
