We care about and care for the earth and all living things on it, which is a lot more than what you christians do. So tell me, how is that self-indulgent? Seems pretty SELFLESS to me.

You're so right, my Wiccan friend!
Most Christians I know don't care to put out the effort to recycle, donate money to no-kill animals shelters and rescues, or donate their time to work with the homeless. No, thats left up to us Pagans. And what's so ironic is, in that way, we are more Christ-like than most Christians.

I wouldn't call all Wiccans self-indulgent. But neither would I say the Christians do not care for the earth and all living things on it. I have met people of all faiths who care about the environment. I would bet that there are plenty of the members of the largest environmental groups in the US that are Christian. In my local community, I am sure that a large percentage of Christians recycle. Also, locally, we have quite a few charities and volunteer workers who are Christian--as well as other faiths.
I am not a Christian and have never practiced that religion. I follow a neo-pagan path. But it doesn't seem fair to disregard all of the good works that people do just because one may not agree with those peoples religion. I think the food banks, clothing banks and homeless shelters that the local Christian churches sponsor are wonderful. As is the local contributions of our pagan community to various charities. Why can't we simply appreciate those who volunteer their time and money to help the environment and the community without getting into some kind of contest to see who gives the most?

Hi, Jo. How's your "tidy little world" today? Would that comment of your's not qualify as "self-indulgent"? I know virtually nothing about Wiccans, so can't really answer the question as I suspect you wanted, but couldn't resist looking at your 360 and the blog. Why not be a bit more self-indulgent and go for the coffee? Fear is not a problem if we proceed in spite of the fear. Enjoy. You only get one shot. It matters not to me what you believe in. If it makes you happy and you are satisfied with it, I say more power to you. By the way, I'm one of those nasty old Christians.

It doesn't do well to attack the groups of others, that is, assuming all Christians hate the Pagan or Earth-based religions. This kind of misunderstanding is what has lead to the serious miscommunications recently...and not just between the Pagan and Christian communities, but every other religious force as well.
An' harm none, do what you will. Keep in mind you harm others by generalizing an entire group, and you harm others by throwing out attack words 'All Christians are this or that way'. Respect is the ability to take, understand, and reflect the best of. Common sense is knowing when to hold back or to push forward. Use a combination of both and you are bound to be successful.

Some Wiccans can be as self indulgent as any other spiritual belief. Some aren't. I do like preserving the planet. We share that value and we probably share lots more.

Ah, but paying lip-service to a concept is completely different from actually doing something about it. I'm sure you've seen that a lot in christians - it's important to realize that you may be doing it too.
That being said, I personally consider all religions and superstitious beliefs to be self-indulgent (i'm an atheist).

well what do we Christians do that's so different from what you do i care for the earth and every living thing on it too, including you, so what do we do ,i give to the homeless shelter, i take in stray cat and feed them, and any other animal that stops in, i help were and when ever i can, and everyone i know is the same way , my husband would give his last dollar to help some one and I've seen him do it, you don't know what you are talking about, where i live we help each other, whether you are in church are not, or christian or not, that's what your suppose to do

I know! I couldn't believe that guy! I guess that may be a misunderstanding of the rule: "If it harm none, do what you will". Or perhaps it's just a judgmental view on different moral ideas....ie: sex, alcohol, etc.
But people...the second law: What you do comes back to you threefold". That keeps all Wiccans doing good.

The only time I have ever felt as if I were being self-indulgent is when I make sure I have time alone to run naked in my backyard...I have not heard anything about us Wiccians being self-indulgent.....

Just because you care about those things, doesn't mean you don't put your wants before others' needs, and buy things because you like them . that's self-indulgent
