If you are talking about Black Widows, they are deadly. They can kill a full grown man if they don't get to the hospital. With the antivenom, you will survive, although the pain you will go through for the next 24 hours is excrutiating. Most people that are bitten by black widows become obsessed with hunting them down and killing them, never wanting to go through it agian. If that isn't the spider you are talking about..well..then I don't know.

Red Back spiders have a poisonous bite. They are an Austrailian Species, related to the Black Widow. I flew to Istanbul Turkey two yrs. ago. I laid down in the seat, and apparently a spider was trapped under my ear.
Within hours, two thirds of my ear turned blue. My hearing changed pitch and sounded like tin. The blue lasted for more than a month, and almost a year later, I still had a sore spot. I never did know what type it was. I drank a lot of Raki (Turkish Alcohol), and went berserk for a while. Not a good combination. Spider bite/Raki

I'm assuming you are talking about black widows. As answered before me, they can be deadly to small children, elderly or even those with weakened immune systems. Though I have never been bitten by one I had a friend of mine get a bite in the neck. Aside from a nasty bite wound and flu like symptoms he was fine after a week.

True widow spiders (the kinds that have the red marks on them) are quite dangerous. Their bites can be fatal.

They can do serious damage to you, and can kill the elderly, pets, and small children. Stay away from or kill them.
