I have been LDS for many years, and I would not change a thing. If you want confusion, take a look around. The whole purpose of our church is to take away that confusion. There are so many religions out there and not one of them is the same. Yet I know that where ever I may go, the services and beliefs are the same. I live in Utah, but went to another state and went to meetings there, and I knew exactly what to expect. Our doctrines do not change, they are the same teachings that Jesus Christ used when He walked and taught the apostles. It has been restored to this earth in it's fullness never to be taken away again. Here is a facinating article and one worth pondering.
A Catholic Utterance
In a pamphlet entitled The Strength of the Mormon Position, the late Elder Orson F. Whitney, of the Council of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, related the following incident under the heading "A Catholic Utterance":
Many years ago a learned man, a member of the Roman Catholic Church, came to Utah and spoke from the stand of the Salt Lake Tabernacle. I became well-acquainted with him, and we conversed freely and frankly. A great scholar, with perhaps a dozen languages at his tongue's end, he seemed to know all about theology, law, literature, science and philosophy. One day he said to me: "You Mormons are all ignoramuses. You don't even know the strength of your own position. It is so strong that there is only one other tenable in the whole Christian world, and that is the position of the Catholic Church. The issue is between Catholicism and Mormonism. If we are right, you are wrong; if you are right, we are wrong; and that's all there is to it. The Protestants haven't a leg to stand on. For, if we are wrong, they are wrong with us, since they were a part of us and went out from us; while if we are right, they are apostates whom we cut off long ago. If we have the apostolic succession from St. Peter, as we claim, there is no need of Joseph Smith and Mormonism; but if we have not that succession, then such a man as Joseph Smith was necessary, and Mormonism's attitude is the only consistent one. It is either the perpetuation of the gospel from ancient times, or the restoration of the gospel in latter days."

Now we do have temples and they are a sacred place that we do sacred ordinances in. We seal families together not just here on this earth as normal ceremonies are performed, but for all time and eternity. It is done with the sacred Preisthood power and keys that have been restored. Someone put that not everyone can go. That is true, the reasons for that are that some may not be worthy to enter. Does it mean that they are bad people, no...they just have things to work on before they can enter in and do those things. It's about being worthy, morally clean, going to church services, being honest with your fellow men, you have an interview and are asked questions about worthiness on those things that I have written, is that so bad. I don't think so. When you go into the temple you enter into a place that is void of the outside influences of the world. It is quiet and beautiful. A place to meditate and think about higher laws and values. It is something that members strive for, but it is not difficult to do if you are keeping the commandments and living in harmony with the teachings of Jesus. We believe that there is a purpose for this life. We wanted to be like our Heavenly Father. He provided us a plan to give us the opportunities to experience this life and learn from it. He also loved us so much that He provided a way for us to be able to reutrn to his presence. It is through His Son Jesus Christ that we can be found spotless again and to be able to return to his presence. We are not that different, we just know what this life is all about and strive to live the teachings of the Bible and Book of Mormon. We have people who follow the gospel and live the way they should and we have some that are laid back and don't always do what they should. But if we are being honest here, you find that in any religion or belief. You can not judge a religion or person for the actions of another. You will find many who will send you to anti-Mormon sites there are just as many sites that can refute anything they put out there. With any religion if you want to know more please make sure you go to the official sites of the Church. We lay it all out there on the sites. It's there for you to read and learn from. People are scared or against it then it's because of things they've heard or read, or better yet, just don't know. I am who I am because of my beliefs, but it is also because I have received a testimony of it's truthfullness. I am a good person, who is kind and loving. I try and yes I make mistakes but I keep going knowing what is at stake.

I hope that you take the time to search and ponder the things found in the above links finally a scripture to leave with you. It's in your hands and GODs. Don't take my word for it. That is your responsiblity to find out for yourself.

3 Behold, I would exhort you that when ye shall read these things, if it be wisdom in God that ye should read them, that ye would remember how merciful the Lord hath been unto the children of men, from the creation of Adam even down until the time that ye shall receive these things, and ponder it in your hearts.
4 And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost.
5 And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things.
6 And whatsoever thing is good is just and true; wherefore, nothing that is good denieth the Christ, but acknowledgeth that he is.
7 And ye may know that he is, by the power of the Holy Ghost; wherefore I would exhort you that ye deny not the power of God; for he worketh by power, according to the faith of the children of men, the same today and tomorrow, and forever.

The best reference would be your boyfriend and the main website. If you want to buy a Chevy, will you go to a Ford dealer to ask about the Chevy? No, you would go to the Chevy dealer.

Mormon's are good people, as a whole. Just like any other religion, you will find a few bad apples. But the church as a whole is really working to make the world a better place. They do so much more than try to convert people.

They have thousands of missionaries that do no proselytizing. They are out, paying their own way, on humanitarian missions. Helping villages dig new wells for clean water in Africa, teaching newborn baby resuscitation techniques in Egypt and distributing thousands of wheelchairs in Vietnam.

Go to your boyfriend, or his parents, and ask whatever you want to know. Or go to a Mormon church some Sunday and ask to speak with a Bishop or missionaries.

Well first forget the typical misconception about polygamy. They haven't done that for over 100 years. Second myth is that they have their own bible. The book of Mormon is another testament of Jesus, it does not replace the bible. The head of the church is a prophet, they believe that GOD speaks to him & he relays the message. They don't harm the body, so no smoking, caffiene, overeating, NO sex before marriage, the males are expected to spend 2 years on a mission. Then they come home, go to college & most get married immediately, 'cause they're 20 yr old virgins! They do believe that heaven is in 3 sections. So it depends on how you live & your sins as to which part of heaven you go to. The members I met in the south were total opposite of the ones I met in the West. AZ. LDS members are totally money grubbing backstabbers. Not just a few, more like 60% of the ward. Also, services last 3 hours every Sunday morning.

I know that most Mormons do not know anything about the founding fathers of their religion, the real reasons for the division of the church, and some of the CRAZY weirdness associated with the belief system. For instance, supposedly Joseph Smith found a stone box in an apple orchard in Palmyra, New York. It contained gold plates inscribed with Egyptian hyroglyphs. When Smith put on a pair of glasses made from Urim and Thummim Stones he could read the glyphs in English. Urim and Thummim stones were kept in the ephod of the Jewish high priest and used to query and decern God's commands. I think you ought to read the book, "Is Mormonism Christian?" before you make a decision to join up with Mormons.

They mean well, and I have tried to understand their beliefs and practices but I couldn't. All I know is that they are not an open religion. If you ask what they believe in, they will try to get you to join the church instead of telling you. Many are not let into their own temples. They mean very well. They have had success where many other religions have failed (divorce, cursing, etc.) and I admire them for that.

I once asked my ex-girlfriend (mormon) what her religion was about compared to others. What were the differences between what her church believed and what the RCC or any protestant church believed? She couldn't tell me. I'm not trying to bash the religion, but I cannot see a religion in which not every member is equal.

If you want to look into it further I would suggest you go to wikipedia. That site helped me understand mormanism.

I used to be a Mormon - contact me if you want some info. There's too much to write on here! Basically they are good hearted people with some pretty far-out-there beliefs. I don't want to get into Mormon bashing - I know enough people will do that on here! Just be advised that while it looks good up front, you don't find out a lot of stuff until you're very involved and committed.

Ok personaly I am having a bit of trouble with these gold plates that only one man said existed and no one has been able to find them.
I don't doubt that Jesus in one way or the other may have appeared here in the americas and since they do believe in Jesus I can't complain
I do know this they do take care of there own and you would never have to worry about him making a good living and that's about all I can say those are the pro's and cons I would say go for it.

Be very careful about what you hear. There are more lies told about mormons than any other religion.

Mormons live longer.
Mormons have fewer divorces.
Mormons have better health.
Mormons even score higher on testing.

Investigate the mormon church with an open heart. There is so much goodness there.

Try to get hold of the book "Secret Ceremonies" by Deborah Laake.
It will tell you a lot about the Mormon religion and practices. Just don't let your boyfriend know you read it.

As a latter-day saint, I think I can answer that one...
We believe in God the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost. (1st Article of Faith)

We also believe in the Book of Mormon and the Bible, as far as it is translated correctly. We believe that God has a plan for us, His children. He loves you and has much in store for you.
It would be much easier for you to email me or talk to another LDS person, or you can call to talk to someone about the Book of Mormon from lds.org or mormon.org
If you want you can email me at ksc_16@hotmail.com if you have any other questions.

Mabe this will help. We have 13 Articles of Faith. These are 13 statements that decribe the basic beliefs of the church. I will type them below:

We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost.

We believe that men will be punished for their own sins, and not for Adam's transgression.

We believe that through the Atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel.

We believe that the first principles and ordinances of the Gospel are: first, Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; second, Repentance; third, Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; fourth, Laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost.

We believe that a man must be called of God, by prophecy, and by the laying on of hands by those who are in authority, to preach the Gospel and administer in the ordinances thereof.

We believe in the same organization that existed in the Primitive Church, namely, apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, evangelists, and so forth.

We believe in the gift of tongues, prophecy, revelation, visions, healing, interpretation of tongues, and so forth.

We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.

We believe all that God has revealed, all that He does now reveal, and we believe that He will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God.

We believe in the literal gathering of Israel and in the restoration of the Ten Tribes; that Zion (the New Jerusalem) will be built upon the American continent; that Christ will reign personally upon the earth; and, that the earth will be renewed and receive its paradisiacal glory.

We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may.

We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.

We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul—We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.
