There is case law stating that schools must now supply students with the necessary school supplies - not parents/guardians. When was this law passed and why are there so many school districts supplying lists to parents of what their child must bring to school next month?

Hello Malachi. I tried to find the information you seek. I'm not personally familiar with the law, but I can see as I browse legal references that there may indeed be legal requirements under some situations that the government fund school supplies. I'll refer you to the following website as possibly answering your question or getting closer to an answer:

If this does not point you in the right direction, then knowing just a bit more about what 'you' know, will help. In other words, is it a religious school, home schooling, something different than a traditional public school, etc, and what state are you in or referring to.

That's the first I've heard of it. In my case, the school district doesn't do it and the parents certainly don't. I'd love to have all the money back for supplies I've bought for my own students using my own paycheck. Sometimes it's almost like I'm working for nothing.

The supreme court make statutes that aren't actual laws but color of law demands.
There is nothing in the Constitution that says the government must but you through school it only states that you can go to school

The Supreme Court doesn't make laws. Congress does.

You are mistaken. Your child is entitled to a free and appropriate public education. Stop being legalistic, take some responsibility, and buy the damn supplies.
