I'm going to be in Manhattan this weekend and would also like to do an overnight in Atlantic City. (Trump Taj has a nice deep-stack tournament at midnight.)

Basically, I want to get into AC at around 11p, and leave so I get back to Manhattan before 9a.

And I don't want to Greyhound. I know they would fit the bill, but I am trying to find something a little cheaper. ;)

Chinatown buses are famous for quick and cheap service. I would recommend this over Greyhound or Academy. It's $20 bucks each way I believe.

Actually, I've taken a few different ones. Believe it or not, Greyhound has a pretty good deal, and offers the most flexibility.
they are all about the same pricewise, but because Greyhound has so many buses, you can return at almost any time, day or night. You have 24 or 48 hours, I'm not sure, to use the return trip.
Also, if your bus has left, you can go to another Casino, and catch a bus there, or go to the Bus depot, about 4 blocks off the main drag. Any bus heading back to the Port Authority will take you, if there's room.
Hope this helped, good luck. Tom

Academy leaves from the PArt Authority approximately evey half hours. The ticket about $24 rt, and they refund about $15 in cach when you arrive. Dont warry which casino it goes to as you can walk from one to another, and come back on any bus you want within 2 days. Go to the Academy bus web site.

You have buses traveling between New York City and Atlantic City every day very frequently in Chinatown, and the bus tickets are cheap too.
